Learning more about modeling
Posted by 4tonmantis on Thursday, September 29, 2011 12:49 PM

I just joined today and thought I'd post here to introduce myself.

By trade I'm an artist and by hobby I've been into model building for quite a while.  I've recently designed some figures and accessories for tabletop wargaming for a company and I'm now at the point where I need to move my modeling skills to the next level.  Primarily I've done several builds, kitbashes, and conversions for sci-fi tabletop games but I also want to work on more military (and other real world) kits.  I also am trying to learn a more refined approach to weathering and detailing than just the basic drybrushing and ink wash.

Main things I'm looking forward to improving (hopefully with the help of this community) is sculpting and mold-making (I've got the basics of both), plasticard work (I've done some pretty extensive work but it's not very refined), airbrush (I know how to get paint to go through it..that's about it), scratch building, weathering, and conversions/kitbashing.  I've never worked with photoeched brass, pigments, or oil paints but have used a few aftermarket detail kits.

Current projects include kitbashing a King-Raven from the video game Gears of War (I have a 53 jolly green giant and a Mi-24 Hind  both in 1/48 but need to do the work), sculpting up parts to convert some Games Workshop models to look like the Gears characters, a 1:32 Challenger battle tank, and a 1/48 Revell Commando Robotech model from the 80s.  I've got loads of other kits waiting for attention but this is my active build list.

Feel free to pop into a thread, message me, or otherwise say hello.
