Welcome to the board Larry and thanks for your service in the armed forces!

You aren't the only old dude here so don't apologize.  Big Smile  Been around for quite a while myself and remember the $2 kits at the dime stores.  Will hit the double nickel this next January.  UGH!   Don't have near the number of kits that you have finished.  Most of mine are still in the box at this point.  Ended up on a 20 year hiatus after the big D and only recently got started again.  Bad thing lost a lot of building time.  The good thing is I now have the tools to do the things I kept dreaming up back when.  Woohoo!

Welcome, Larry, and thanks for your service to our country.

I also build only 1/72 aircraft for the consistency of scale, and 1/700 whenever I venture into ships.

I'm sure we'd all like to see some photos of your collection; I've been building since the '60's, too, don't have anything left more recent than the mid-'70's, and it would be a trip down memory lane to see some of the old stuff.

Welcome aboard, Larry.

There are a bunch of us that still do mainly 1/72 (even armor!), and there's not a thing wrong with brush-painting. Hope you'll enjoy hanging out here--it's a great group, with a wide range of backgrounds, experience and modeling preferences. I'm sure you may find some inspiration (or provide some to others). And, as always, we'd love to see some of your builds if you care to share.

Welcome Sign glad you decided to join in here as well. I am sure you will find the guys here just as friendly and helpful, even if we do have the odd spat, but they are easy to ignore.

We do like lots of pics here, so look forward to seeing some of your builds.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

PropellerGood morning, folks. My name is Larry Schmidt. I am posting from my home in Columbia, Missouri. I am a retired U. S. Army Field Artillery officer. I have a wonderful wife named Doris Ann, 2 stepchildren, Steven and Maria, and a black cat named Katrina, I have been building models since I was six, my first one being an Aurora Panther. I started building and collecting seriously in 1962 When I discovered 1/72 constant scale. It is my medium of choice for building aircraft and armor. I also build other stuff for a change of pace. I build old school, using a drawer full of hand tools and 3 Mason jars of paintbrushes. I tried airbrushes but it was a pain and did not give me any satisfaction. My home's basement, finished after retirement, has a workbench and file cabinet for my supplies. It has floor to ceiling bookcases for my books of many genres. I have a gallery room with shelving for about 1500 finished models built since the 1960s. I stopped lurking and joined Hyperscale and ARC forums. There I have met some reaaly nice folks. I hope to do so here as well. Have a great day. Adios, Larry Schmidt.
