Always wanted to fire a belt fed weapon!

Played a lot of Paintball tournaments in the 90s, the safest way to move from a position was to call for 'Suppression Fire' on the opponent most threatening your position. This was shortened to 'Fire' or 'Bring heat' and 'heat em' up!'

Always the underdogs our team 'the Wild Cardz' did enjoy the spoils of victory now and then. Any hint of a after party and we really represented the 'Wild West'.Toast

Wabashwheels

Mine's pretty unimaginative.   Wabash, after my Alma Mater, the incomparable Wabash College of Indiana.  And Wheels, my lifelong nickname, because my last name's Wheeler and I could run like the wind.  Not a real strong wind.  More like a good spring breeze.

Stik, I'm with you on the stash.  I bought some kits new that have become "classics" settin in the closet.  Someone will be selling them on ebay someday if they're smart.  Hey, that wouldn't be a bad screen name:  "Stashhound".     Rick

Hey, is that the "Memphis Belle" in your avatar? Cool! I used to climb around in her as a kid when it was a derelict aircraft sitting all by its lonesome on a piece of concrete at the airport in Memphis, TN. This was probably back in the mid-1970s, and no one really gave a crap about it's future nor its history. And, of course, I had no idea what it's history was. I just knew it was a B-17. All the instruments were gone out of it, bird nests were in a lot of the instrument holes and elsewhere in the fuselage, graffitti was rampant in it. But I would climb up in the cockpit and pretend I was flying somewhere over Germany in it for hours at a time. How did I get to do this? My dad was in the Tennessee Air National Guard, and he would take me with him to the Memphis International Airport on some of his Guard weekends, as long as I stayed out of the way while I was there. So, I hung out at the Belle. There was also an old F-86D sitting out there next to the Belle, which had been cannibalized for just about everything that could stripped from it. If I had known then what I know now...............

I was in SF from 90-92, but was never on a Team or Tabbed. I did intel there/then, but beleive you me, we had to do lots of ruckin' to be ready to deploy with the the ODAs as needed. I am curious what changes he may have had with the jump manual. I do recall some change in exit techniques during my time on jump status and then we got a new style reserve chute that required a modified technique for emergency deployment. Not that I would trade my Army expereinces for anything, but sometimesI do think it would have been cool to be able to have spent some time in the other services as well to do some of the stuff that they do and the Army does not.

As far as kits go for me, my prime focus right now is to finish up a Tamiya 1/35 UE Carrier and Monogram 1/48 F9F-5. But I also have another 2 dozen or so kits in various stages of build from barely started to just about done...Wink How bout yourself?

Well, I've got the 1/48th Tamiya He-162A-2 almost complete. Just needs paint, and final assembly, and it'll be done. I'm on vacation until the 17th of October, so I'm hoping to have it done before then. Just below, you'll see what else is in the works. A couple of them have been in the works for almost 20 years..........Whistling . The A-26 is one of those.

Seems as though everytime I buy a new kit (regardless of how long it's been on the market), THAT is gonna be my next build. That ever happen to you? Or, am I the only one that happens to? Propeller And so, because of that little temporary loss of control, I have more models than I can possibly finish in this lifetime, although, if I build two a month, I can theoretically finish them all, IF I don't buy another kit until the present ones are finished. I actually see a therapist, would you believe that?

Mine's pretty simple.

Doogs is a nickname I've had for years. Play on my last name. I've had bosses and even a few clients call me by it more or less exclusively. And it's rarely taken.

ATX = Austin, Texas.

I was Regular Army from Nov 83 to Nov 87. I joined the Guard in Feb 88 and retired from there in Feb 07. Cant say that I ever ran into your friend, although there were plenty of former Marines in the Guard in the various units that I served in.

I don't think David went SF until around 1988 or so. He went in the Army around 1983, and was Army all the way, never a Marine. He just retired back in 2008, forced out due to medical problems from jumping way too many times. He eventually helped to rewrite the Army jump manual (I actually saw his name as the author of it!), and received the Bronze Star for some of his exploits over in Bosnia and Afghanistan. He should've been a Marine. He sure acts like one (that's a good thing!).

Whatcha got working on the bench now?

Propeller The site said my first 2 choices were taken. I use "CSMO" and "The Artilleryman" on the various other sites I participate in. Unkie is what my nieces call me. Jenna Marie said:"anybody can be an uncle' but you gotta be special to be an UNKIE. 637 refers to the Field Artillery battalion I served in in the Republic of Korea in 1973-74. I was the 6th Battalion, 37th Field Artillery. Have a great day, everybody. Adios, Larry.Propeller

Yeah the JM is usually a guy you do not mess with. Wink I have never seen ajump refusal, but I have seen some pretty scared guys going out the door Zip it! I have ahd a similar "E-Ticket Ride" in  the observer seat of an OH-58...  no jumpers in the air nearby though. Just canyon walls nearby. Here is a little comic strip by a guy who has been there/done that probably around the same era you and I were in, to expalin the finer points of military parachuting with a sense of humor...

Oh, man! That IS funny! I've got a good friend who was an SF paratrooper who would love that cartoon, although he has probably seen it by now. He was even an instructor for awhile. Goes by the name of SFC Lyle, David. Nickname of "Smurf". Maybe you know him?

Anyways, I was in the Corps from Feb 1984 to July 1995. What time frame did you serve?

Hahhahhah! That's funny! I know it's gotta be true, but it's still funny, all the same. I guess that's why he's called the jumpmaster, huh? Ever see that happen in reality?

My oldest son did a tandem jump back in 2006 in Indiana. Gotta admit, he's braver than me. That's probably the only thing in the world that I won't do - jump out of perfectly good ariplanes while they're flying at 11,000 feet. I did get to sit in the copilot's seat and follow him down in a spiral, though, thanks to the good graces of the pilot after I hinted to her that I would love to go up and watch him jump. Of course, she didn't tell me what was gonna happen after they jumped, though. She just said (after they jumped)," Hold on to the coaming." I said, "Ok", and as soon as I grabbed it, we were immediately at 45 degrees nose-down, spiraling my son and his instructor as they fell. We were in a Cessna Caravan following them down. That was, and still is, the best damned ride I've ever had. Better than ANY amusement park ride!! I will definitely do that again! No parachuting for me, though.

I created mine back when I was jumping out of perfectly good airplanes in flight for Uncle Sam. A group of jumpers is called a stick. The last man out the door who "pushes" all the other jumpers out ahead of him is called the "stick pusher". In my LRS unit I was usually assigned as the stick pusher for my team on drops. When I first came online and needed a screen name I dropped the "c" and started using it on the various sites and email which I used, including here, that needed a screen name. I had also tried a variation of"wind dummy" (not here), the first guy out the door who is used to check wind directions, but didnt keep that one...Wink Since I rarely had lead man door position.

This is why I posted this question - the stuff you can learn! I did not know that about paratroopers. Pretty cool! By the way, who pushes the stickpusher if he chickens out? I'm sure that's happened once or twice in the history of parachuting.......   Propeller
