Old Father Time
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, January 31, 2004 12:12 PM
Hello, just joined tonight. Been a modelmaker for 40 years, so I'm ancient , started with Airfix kits in polystyrene bags and Humbrol enamel was 8 old pence a tin. Things sure have come on a pace ! Anyone built the Dragon Karl Morser ? Finished mine, very impressed by this big beast on my desk, big plans for a multi figure dio. Next day, took another look, nope the detail just wasn't there, very toylike, after careful consideration, plus reading the MM build up, it headed for the bin. So what was your most dissappointing build ?

Welcome to the forum, Loki. My most disappointing kits were Tamiya's 1/48 FW 190 F&D. Put them on the shelf next to DML/Dragon kits of same varient. Tamiya kits went to the back of the shelf in a big hurry.
Have fun & enjoy the site !

Hi Loki and welcome to the forums, hope you enjoy yourself here. dissapointing kit? a while ago i bought an airfix skyhawk, (this was one of my first kits and it cost me 2 bob - yup another old fart here LoL).i thought it would be a blast from the past, i looked at the contents and it got round filed - right in the bin. didn't even bother saving the decals.
btw for younger and non british members 2 bob is 2 shillings - pre decimalisation of the UK currency (1971).

Welcome to the forums, Loki!

My most disappointing build has to be the Sig33 Bison from Maquette Dead [xx(]
It is a rebox of a Zvezda kit with some resin thrown in (some terrible, warped, useless resin, to be more specific)

It still sits in it's box, 25% complete and probably will never be finished.

Hello Loki, Welcome to the forum. My biggest disappointment would have to be my half finished 1/72 Pioneer 2 TA-154. A totally inaccurate piece of junk that I started when there was no other option. I may finish it someday just so to prove to myself it can be done.

Welcome to the family loki!!! My most dissapointing kit was never built, but went straight into the trash......the Italeri 1/72 CH-53E....I keep hoping for a manufacturer to make a better one, but I'm not holding my breath!!

Welcome to FSM loki. I would have to say a Monogram B-17 model I had tried to build when I was a teenager. That model ended up as target practice with a BB gun.LOL.

Welcome to FSM!
My most dissapointing build...just the few that I haven't finished yet! If I actually finish a kit, I'm usually not dissapointed! Getting 'em done...now, THAT'S the problem!

Welcome to the forums, Loki! Among my most disappointing builds are the ones that never got finished for one reason or another. Great idea for a thread, by the way.

Loki, welcome to FSM and the forums. Most disappointing build? Probably the old Monogram Firebolt jet racer. I could never quite get that car done the way I had envisioned it.

Welcome to the forum family. As you can see, you asked quite a question!
1. I'm disappointed over any kit I don't at least attempt to finish.
2. The one kit I hated more than any other: DML BTR-80. Still gives me shivers...

Glad to have you aboard with us model nuts! This is a great place to find all the information you could possibly want about our hobby! My most disappointing kit would have been the first Lotus Formula 1 car that I brush painted as a kid! It was a runny green mess and I threw it out! Joe

Hi Loki, and welcome to the asylum. My most dissapointing kit was the Minicraft 1/350 Titanic. Ugly piece of junk, poor fit, ejection pin marks everywhere. And fell off the entertainment center less than an hour after completing it.

I was almost going to buy Karl, but I ended up getting the Dragon K5 (leopold) for christmas.

So you like Karl? I might have to get my hands on one!

I'm surprised nobody has took the time to bash the first Dragon Hummel (yet). Some targets are just too easy.
