I am working on this same kit myself, but I am building the Falklands war version.

This kit really is of the new standard for Airfix, the fit is excellent. However, I have heard the kit decals leave a lot to be desired.

I am planning on modeling mine wheels up and in flight with the bomb bay open. I also intend to leave the right front door open. I know Orion crews open doors in flight for a few different reasons, so I am guessing the same of Nimrod crews. I built a little bit of an interior to be visible behind the cockpit, including a closet for the lav. Not sure what else is up in that section, because interior shots of Nimrods seem to be hard to come by.

Excuse me.. Is that an Uzi?

Welcome! I really envy you your stay in Malta and we all really want to see your pictures, and the kit too of course!

Times have changed. Taking those pictures today would land you in a windowless room with some very hard men.

Hi Guys,

Working on my latest kit by Airfix Nimrod MR1. This A/c will be modeled for 203 sqn based on Malta during the 70's. I just happened to be living there at the time and spent alot of time watching and photographing  Nimrods as the took off and landed at RAF Luqa.Awsome site watching them take off. Lots of work on the kit itself and a big kit to boot.Parts are great going together and little fill is needed in some areas.Too bad the cockpit did not come with additional parts, but once both halfs are joined,it would be very difficult to see anything. A/C will be painted in the grey and white scheme, so semi-gloss paint will be used. Will look great along  with my Vulcan and Victor K2, which both types flew from the island. Happy building, Chuck.
