Hi Guys
Posted by Maj on Tuesday, December 6, 2011 3:43 PM

hi all, im 23 and have just started doing models about two weeks ago. so i just here to learn more about the skills and pro tips for models etc. So far i have done a spitfire 1:72 starter set, a Abrams 1:72 tank and a 1:72 red arrow, im have just started working on a UH-1 Huey Hog which i am really enjoying. Im not a full on beginner as i used to do warhammer in my mid teens and understand that taking time on your model is FAR better than rushing one. So far i have only done one airfix and it was horrible didnt fit properly gaps everywhere but yet all the others i have done have been revell and they seem fine apart from the cockpit assembly on Huey. I did buy some humbrol paints in which i didnt get on with so i switched back to the citadel paints i used when doing warhammer and they seem perfect :) i will try and get some photos up of the models i have done but my paint skills are not great infact i think my 11 year sister could do better :P i seem to shake alot when painting not to sure why. Maybe if someone could point in the right section of the forums i could get some photos up and you can all have a giggle :)

Hello & welcome to the forums!

One thing that may help the 'shakes' is to mount the subject being painted on a handle such as a block of wood. Brace against the edge of your work table and keep the hand holding the brush near the work, braced as well.

Think of the control holding a pen close to the paper, you are only 10 mm +/- away. Same goes for brush painting.

Another technique is to simple practice a few brush strokes on a scrap part to get the feel of your paint and brush, this may help the 'commitment' fear of applying paint to your latest model.

Most of all have fun and I am sure your skills will improve with some tips & practice!Toast
