New to the forum, but not to the hobby.
Hi folks, I'm new here but not to the hobby. this is my 13th year building models. You may have seen me on other forums, I've been on modeling forums since 2000...mostly automotive only forums. As my sigline says, I build a little bit of everything...finishing them is another story!
From 1999-2009, I built automotive models only. Then, in 2009, I joined my local IPMS chapter, and shortly thereafter started building a little bit of everything. I started my first plane in 2009, finished it in 2010, and in 2010 also built my first armor, figure, ship, science fiction, and started my first spacecraft, although I still havn't finished that one yet. I discovered that I enjoyed all these forms of modeling, with figures being my favorite. Ships leave me mostly confused although I love the subjects.
I have not worked up the courage to try rigging yet, either on a ship or a WWI airplane, which are my favorite planes.
Roughly half of my builds are NASCAR subjects.
I will say that I'm not a very good builder- I know that, and it is frustrating at many times, but I do the best I can. I generally do not weather anything- I like pristene looking vehicles. I know it's somewhat taboo to build a clean military vehicle, but my theory is: It was new at one point! That's what I'm going to document. Everybody and their brother builds them all weathered up, that's not for me. And besides, if nobody documents how they looked when they were fresh, it could someday be lost to history.
I am proud to be a member of the Town of Newburgh Model Car Club, and the Hudson Valley Historical Miniatures Guild. I may not get to many meetings of each of them, but I enjoy it when I can. I run or co-run the Facebook pages for each club as well.
I don't really get out too often, due to health problems, so I spend a lot of time on various message boards. After starting out building new to me kinds of models, I ended up subscribing to FSM- I've been a subscriber to Scale Auto since 2000, and have been printed in it multiple times- I decided I needed to be on this forum as well. Now I wish I had been purchasing FSM all those years- I gave it a try when I got into modeling, but found there wasn't enough automotive coverage to justify the money for it- never thinking I'd do anything else. Hindsight is 20/20, as they say, (Why it didn't occur to me to just read it for the historical info, I'll never know!)
I've picked up the nickname "The Mad Documenter" because I am compelled to document as much as I possibly can- if you click on my website, in my signature, you will see what I mean :) You'll also see most of the models I've built since I started out, although I do plan to post a couple of them on here to get myself established as well, probably one for each category that I've finished something in.
Here is a picture of me with my only completed ship to date. I won an award with it at the HVHMG show the day after I finished it, with the caveat that only three models were entered in the class.
Thanks for having me, Billy
