Plastic Model Sailing Ship Building
Posted by renaissanceman on Sunday, June 17, 2012 10:32 AM

I am starting to get into building plastic model sailing ships. It is an area that I have always had an interest in getting into. So I decided it was time to just get started. In the last 2 years I have been busy building a model building work area, purchasing modeling tools, glues, etc. I like to be prepared with the right tools and so forth before I begin any project. And of course I have building up a group of kits to build ( Revell's USS Constitution, Heller's HMS Victory, The Seawitch, The MiniCraft Titanic, etc). My focus is on building the 1/96th scale size ships as I am sure you can tell from my list above. I have at this point about 10 large scale kits in my pile. At the rate I am going that will probaly take me about 10 years or more to build all these. But that is fine with me. After all, it is a hobby to enjoy. But I am starting to get into it now.

I am currently starting to build my first-the Revell 1/96 scale Cutty Sark. I have to say since I am just getting into this I am staying at this point to just building right from the box with maybe a few changes. I know for many of you in here who are far more experienced than I don't do that necessarily. But I figured for my first build I wanted to be a little more conservative in my approach.

I have been looking at the photos that have been shared by some of you who are building some of these same kits as I am looking to do. I have really been looking at the ones involving builds of the Heller HMS Victory as well the Revell USS Constitution. All I can say to those model builders is your work is outstanding. I hope at some point I can achieve those same results in time.

Otherwise I am trying to glean ideas from what each of you shares in here in on your prospective builds you are doing or have done.
