Just thought I would stop in and say Hi.
I am brand new to the whole world of scale models. I never had any inkling of interest and actually thought it was kind of silly. But then I met this great guy who does this. He showed me some of his models and since then I have become quite fascinated. I never realized the amount of detail that went into it. I have always been kind of a crafty person so I think this is going to be a lot of fun.
Originally my first model was going to be a 2 1/2 ton truck then I went to Hobbytown and my eyes are set on the USS Arizona.
So I am sure I will be on here asking lots of questions.
Any newbie tips are appreciated
Glad to have you on board. I used to be embaressed about telling people what i did for a hobby. I thought they might think it childish. Even though i knew it wasn't given how much it can cost and how much time and effort goes into it. But after the reaction i got when people saw it, i am long out of the closet.
But once your hooked, theres no going back.

Welcome! There is plenty to learn here and it seems there are plenty of members willing to teach.
If you can and are willing, you might also benefit from maybe finding a local club. If you don't mind my asking, where in the world are you? USA?

You will find the search feature to be extremely useful while asking questions can provide information for problems not covered in previous threads.

Welcome, jagwab! Glad to have you aboard. If I may offer a bit of advice, I think the USS Arizona might be too difficult for a beginner with no experience. You might consider starting with something simple and working your way up into more complicated builds. But, if you feel up to it and have a friend who can help, then dive in!

Welcome aboard jagwab.... if the Arizona kit you have your eye on is the Revell kit, you will be fine. Since you have an expereinced builder around to help you out. I know I built a couple of those as a kid by myself.

Don't worry about complexity. I've been doing this 18 years and the best advice I can give is DIVE IN AND SWIM! I can remember doing the Revell Arizona when i was 12 or so. Built it up with a real sloppy coat of paint then lit it on fire. Things seemed so much simpler back then...

There are a lot of great, talented, styrene addicted ladies and gents here of all ages who are only too happy to help. Just ask (but first do a search ... that's what I do, and this forum never lets me down). As for the Arizona, my motto is, just buld it!
