Welcome aboard! I actually just wrote a post about getting back into the hobby if you want to check it out:

http://doogsmodels.com/2012/09/07/how-to-get-started-or-restarted-building-models/

I know I was AMAZED at how much had changed when I came back, and I only abandoned modeling in the late 90s...but with the internet and the global marketplace these days, it really is a changed world.

Welcome to the forums! Hope you enjoy your time here.

I, for one, can't imagine trying to carve a rose out of wood. You may well have as much to teach us as anything we could teach you. Here's to learning from each other, and having a few laughs while we're at it.

Welcome Sign

I started over again recently when I retired.  Don't be intimidated by the great work you see on these threads (I try not to be) - just jump in and do it.  Good luck!

Hi...Starting over

Now that I'm retired I'd love to start scale modeling again. Many years ago i built from scratch. I made a glider, 1:6 scale violin (not playable of course), carved a rose, cowboy and other odd things...all out of wood.  I remember how much I enjoyed it and wanted to start scale modeling in a serious way. I started doing research on the web and found this sit and saw all the beautiful cars, planes, ships, etc. and was amazed at the high level of skill and artistry you modelers posses, then I really got inspired. I have to admit, I always thought that plastic kits were for kids, but after seeing the work on this and other sites I was truly re-educated. I realized that the kit is just the very beginning. Anyone can snap and glue pieces together, but to make them look the way you modelers do is a real work if art. Congradulations to all you fine scale modelers out there, you should all be very proud.

For my first project I'd like to make the Ford Model T 1912 (Revell-Germany). Hope I'm not starting with something too difficult.

PS

I bought a copy of FineScale Modeler at the supermarket and really liked it...I think I'll subscribe.
