Sort of New, Sort of Old, Kind of Stuck
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, February 12, 2004 5:19 PM
Hi All,
Well my brother and I built plstic models together some 40 years ago. Last year I decided to take up model making as a hobby that would be compatible with my crippled back. I went out and got all kinds of tools, books, paints and kits. the first kit I built was a cute Lindberg DC-8. I think that kit is one I had carried around since childhood. It turned out ok. At 1:250, there's not much detail. Then I started on a really nice model of a snow plow truck my AMT. I used my airbrush for the first time to prime the engine parts and I was really impressed with the way airbrushing preserves the details! But, that's where I got stuck. I feel like I don't know enough or something. I think maybe I'm trying to work beyond my abilities and should probably divert to another model and go back to brushes. I guess maybe it's like writer's block. Has any body here run into this?BLOCKED SCRIPTinsertsmilie('Blush [:I]')

Welcome to FSM.

Feel free to ask away, there are many people here that will gladly assist you.

We all feel at times like that, thinking that we bit of more than we can chew. Luckily most mistakes on a Model can be rectified with a little extra work.

Works slow, take it easy and don't panick and you should be ok.

IMHO, too many modellers now are obsessed with getting to 100% right the first time and don't experiment enough.
I also think that too many people rely too much on advanced techniques and tools and thus tend to forget and use the basics.
You don't have to finish the whole model with the airbrush, use it for where others won't give you the desired result.
In some cases you cannot beat the results of the old and basic technqiues using a brush, etc.

Anyhuh, enjoy the Asylum(aka forum).

Hello SandAgain, Welcome to the forum. My advice would be not to back off using your airbrush. Practice is the only thing that can bring proficiency with the airbrush.Wink [;)]
