Hi and welcome back to the hobby. PE can be a great addition to a build. But it can also be a pain in the butt. I haven't done anything on that scale yet, but i would guess it would be very small and fiddily.

basically, PE replaces parts of the kit that may be bigger for the scale than they should be due to the limitations of plastic modeling. They may also add detail that the kit does not have. Yes you paint them, just as you would the plastic parts they are replaceing. Some people say you must use primer, but i never have and don't have an issue. The usual method to attach them is by super glue.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Hi.  When i was young i loved model building but have not built one in over thirty years.  However, the urge has never left me completely so when i retired recently i gave in to the urge and purchased a 1/350 scale bismarck from revell.

I have just heard of this "new thing" called photo etched parts and find the idea fascinating but know nothing about it.  What techniques are used to install them?  Do you paint or otherwise color them? etc.

Any advice would be appreciated.  Also, i am embarassed to admit that this is the first forum i've ever participated in.  (I did mention that i was old.)

Thank you
