Decal Making Software
Posted by gopher22 on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 9:34 AM

My first trip into decal land was the recent purchase of Micro-Mark Clear Decal sheets for Inkjet printers and a can of Testors Decal Bonder.

My next challenge is to find the best (for me) software to produce the artwork. My needs at least in the short term are for numbers and lettering. I tried a free copy of Papilio, but it seems to be oriented to those who want to make labels for boxes, jars etc. It did not seems to be suitable for 1:76 or 1:87 scale models.

I am looking for opinions on which software (free preferred) would be most suitable for work in these scales. I am running XP Pro and Windows 7 Pro, and, Office 2003 and 2010.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

If you have or can locate the font you need or want then you can do a lot of letter and number decal making with Word. You can also import and resize some images for artwork. Beyond that, a drawing program is very useful i.e. Adobe Illustrator, Corel Draw or one of many 2D CAD programs.

Will do Nathan. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I will repost it later today.
