Always loved modeling when I was a kid - just got back into it again. My first son now 12yo was never too interested but my 4yo who is going to be 5 this year looks to be a plastic modeler down the road. He loves working with his hands and always eager to help even me installing a dishwasher is a lot of interest to him. I finished an AMT Darth Vader Tie-Fighter with him (not a good fitting model).
I'm looking forward to share some of my hobbies with him and models look like a good foundation for some father-son bonding - literally....!
Luckily I don't have to buy too much models as I have a good stock of them from my previous purchases. I like them all, cars and militaria from Hasegawa, Tamiya, Testors, AMT, MPC...
I would consider myself a one notch above beginner level - my painting and finishing would be a good area to practice more on. Just recently made a purchase on an Iwata dual action airbrush and looking forward to use it. I'm hoping to read a lot from this forum and better my skills and hopefully pass it on to my son.

Welcome back to the hobby and also to the Forums. Glad to have you aboard. My name is Jim and I build whatever strikes my fancy when I see it. I've been building for 66 of my 72 years, so that means I've built a lot of different stuff. Built and flown stick and tissue, R/C planes, Scale and Racing Sailboats. If they made kits of it, I built it. Some real cars worked on and raced too. I'm trying to get my grandsons into the hobby, but no luck yet. Had two girls and never found kits of dolls. One of the grandsons asks a lot of questions about what he sees me working on, but doesn't want to build, yet. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Someone on here will either have an answer for you or know where to find it. Enjoy.

Welcome ejhc11, I have recently gotten back into modeling. Airbrushing is a new thing to me too and have had lots of great help from the awesome folks here on the forum. Good to see you and your son doing the hobby together. I have a 2 year old I think is going to be into it too. Again, glad to have you here!

Thanks all! I'm in Irvine, CA. Also, I haven't subscribed to FSM and see a lot of stuff is exclusive to members. Do you guys recommend being a subscriber or the FSM forums provide enough info to learn modeling?
Right now, I have kits from cars, motorcycles, Star Wars, military planes, figures and vehicles. I see planes as the most difficult for me to work with due body shape and paint schemes. I have a new kit, 1/72 Revell F4 Phantom Wild Weasel and the shades of gray on the box gives me the creeps on how to paint it that way.
And, since I've been away paint prices have gone up too - ouch!

You can learn a LOT on these forums but the magazine comes in handy too.
And yes prices ar ALL going up ! I still have a bottle of Pactra paint with a factory price stamp of 35 cents on the top ! And its still good !! Think I bought it in 1972?

Building the perfect model---just not quite yet
Had this kit for a long while, actually bought it because my cousin had the car. Check out the specs 130HP and it was "alluring and aggresive!" Wow, lol..... Working on this kit as a getting back into the groove practice for painting and building. The kit has three style options too - its just too awesome - lol....!
