Hello
Posted by Bushboylive on Sunday, June 30, 2013 9:37 AM

Hi my name is Leon, I live in South Africa and I'm a noob to modeling. I recall as a child building a model aircraft and playing it to pieces. To be honest it was never a true passion. Recently I "stumbled" upon the world of scale modeling again and it's been a thrilling adventure.

My main interest at this moment is 1:35 armor but I guess it will change with time. Hoping my first attempt at a build is not to ambitious, bought a Tamiya M1A2 Abrams today so here we go!

Welcome to the forum, Bush!  I, too, played my model aircraft to pieces back when I was a kid as well.  Literally.  After slapping them together, my brother and I would take our models to the back yard, stuff them with firecrackers and let the fun ensue.  I have no idea how he and I managed to live through our teen years.

This is a great forum in which to be a member!  Post lots of pics when you can.  We all help each other here.

Best wishes,

Eric

Hi guys, thanks for the warm welcome. Started the Abrams last night it's a slow but steady process, we are in the prosess of moving so a lot of my modeling kit is packed and space is limited.

I'll post pics as the build progresses and when time allows

Welcome aboard. There are quite a few armour builders on here, but always great to have some more. Once you get hooked by the Dark Side, there's no going back.

You should be pretty safe with a Tamiya kits, they are generally very nice to build. Look forward to seeing some pics.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Welcome to the Forums Leon!! Glad to have you aboard! Lots of great guys, and gals, on here that are ready to help with any questions/problems that you might have. Sometimes you might get a crazy answer and you'll have to ask again because some of us have been building for a long, long time and we've been sniffing those great glue and paint fumes all that time. They've really taken the fun out of building now with all those acrylic paints and no-odor glues. Wink

Welcome, Leon! South Africa, huh? Not very many from your neck of the woods in here. Great to have you. Keeps us all well rounded and more firmly grounded when we've got members from more parts of this big beautiful marble we live on.

So armor is your current poison. You'll find plenty of advice in that regard in here. Aircraft (WWII) have been my latest affliction. When finished with my ongoing Butcher Bird, I plan to change course and hit at least one SciFi build before dabbling in some armor myself. I gotta get away from wings, man! A couple of very poorly designed aircraft kits have nearly been the end of me.

This hobby can become a love/hate relationship. However, all around it's very rewarding and educational. You'll know what I mean when you find yourself researching things like the color of fuel to air ratio knobs or the number of bolts holding a drive wheel on .......fun and frustrating.

Again, Welcome and Get some pics in here!!

Bill.

On the bench:  Lindberg 1/32 scale 1934 Ford Coupe and a few rescue projects.

In queue:  Tamiya 1/35 Quad Tractor or a scratch build project.
