Returning member with a burning project - a Pershing Missile System
Posted by Foxer on Saturday, January 11, 2014 8:54 AM

I've been a member of the forum for some time but have never posted much. I'm beginning a new project and wanted to post the work-in-progress here as I think it may be something different for all the Armor modelers. I'm a car modeler, but have done simple, out of box, armor models when I was young ... 53 years ago!

I acquired a rare model of the Topping Pershing Missile and Erector Launcher recently. This was the weapon I served on as an Erector Launcher Operator while in the Army in 1967-68 and have desired to accurately model this subject for a long while. As I searched for a model of the missile I did build a few of the vehicles we used ... an X454 Carrier which was a converted M113 APC used to carry the missile and equipment and a 5-ton truck, also an equipment-troop carrier. I'm posting a few shots of these below.

I will be starting a work-in-progress thread soon, but expect long-in-time progress as I build slowly and methodically.

Hey these are pretty nice!  If you haven't, you should post these in the armor forum too.

Looks really good! It's always cool to see guys building stuff that they used to work with.

Hello!

That's really interesting - I sure have to watch this one! You might add "Pershing" to the thread title, though - more people interested in this subject would look at it this way. I would also love to know more about thebackground of those machines and how the work on the Pershing was like. When and where did you serve? Good luck with your project, and have a nice day

Thanks for the welcome, and suggestions. I posted  a thread for the X474  in the Armor section which has a little more info on the Pershing System. I'll also get a thread up soon for the Missile and Erector-Launcher and will add much more detail on the system as I expect many might be interested.
