Need some kit
Posted by Samuel Valente on Thursday, January 23, 2014 4:21 PM

Hey, I've been scale modelling for a about a year now and have built my fair share of basic kits with very basic tools. I've gradually been working my way up to realise I need to start investing in some proper kit to train with and progress further.

I've only got the basics (a knife, filler, glues) but I am devoted and willing to improve the craft. Ideally I need advice on my first airbrush (and a good compressor) along with what you recommend (tool wise) for me to get into detailed building.

I have read many pages of how to airbrush and am under the impression that i should get a single action, bottle fed airbrush with a compressor.

Thanks alot for any helpCool.

Samuel,

When getting into air-brush's and compressors, you must give thought to how much can you afford to spend, there all a lot of, cheap, get by and quality air -brush's on the market. I choose Paasche, for the past 45yrs, but there are many others, just as good. As far as compressors go the same thing. But I would highly recommend at compressors with a storage tank, built in for best control. I personally use a Craftsman, 150psi,2hp, 4gal pancake tank with two regulators and a moisture trap built into my air brush line. Again I say, How much can you afford? Smile

If you post this in the painting section you will probably get a lot of responses. There's a lot of information there and a lot of great guys that are ready, willing, and able to help you.

I just got an AB last year and I'm learning how to use it. Ditto on what Frank said above about the compressor. I share an industrial compressor that has a 10 gal. tank with my wife. I have a separate regulator/water trap beside my spraybooth. Have not had any trouble with the set-up.
