Greetings from Stockholm Sweden
Posted by SwedBear on Friday, March 28, 2014 3:11 PM

Just wanted to say hi. I'm 43 and as many others here a returning builder. I used to build tons of models when I was young. My fondest memories still are when visiting my relatives in Germany (I'm half German) during summer and every day running to the toy store and just going through their models trying to decide which one to spend my money on.

Then computers came .. and up until now I've focused on them. I'm a webdeveloper for a company, run my own little webdev-firm on the site + run my own hardware website since 14 years (www.bjorn3d.com). I love gadgets and writing about them and building computers and coding. But something has been missing.

It actually is due to Lego that I am back in the game. My 5 year old son and my 2 year old daughter both love Lego and I of course have to build it or at least help. And I suddenly realized how much I love just sitting and using my hands and building. I even bought some of the big expensive Lego-stuff for myself. I sit with computers almost every waking hour so I've decided I need to find something completely different to do just to be able to relax.

The last few months I've started to visit the only big hobby-store left in Stockholm (luckily it has tons of great stuff to buy) buying kits to build and new colors, new brushes and today even a aribrush and a good compressor. And now it is time to start building .... and I am terrified.

When I built as a kid I enjoyed just building and painting. Today it does to some extend feel like there are so much more techniques to be used for shading, weathering etc etc that I am almost afraid to start because I know I will suck in the beginning ... :-/.

I'm looking forward reading the forums here, going through the how-to and the videos (subscriber of course - but true to a gadget man reading it on a tablet :) )  and hopefully some day be able to post some nice photos of new builds that look decent. Oh, and it looks like a great place for return-newbies (to some extend I feel like one) to ask "dumb" questions.

The big question then will be where to actually find room to put finished models .... :).

Unlike many others, I want to say this: RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!

This hobby has some of the most addictive attributes going:

(A) Collectors Syndrome. There’s always another kit/book/tool/add-on you’ve GOT to get.

(B) God Complex. Within the limits of your workbench, you are a minor deity (emphasis on MINOR).

(C) Byzantine Modeler Complaint. There’s ALWAYS something that could be done better.

(D) Super-Glued Finger Ailment. (DON’T ASK.)

(E) Obsessive–Compulsive Personality Disorder. If you’re not OCPD now, you will be.

There must be many more modeling-related illnesses. You’ll find them for yourself soon enough! Welcome to the club!

Occasional factual, grammatical, or spelling variations are inherent to this thesis and should not be considered as defects, as they enhance the individuality and character of this document.

Welcome to the Forums Bjorn! Glad to have you aboard!

No such thing as a "dumb question". It is a great place to ask for help to solve problems. Enjoy.

Oh, the answer to your question is you have to build an addition to your house. Wink

I keep hitting "escape", but I'm still here.
