Well, I've tried contacting AMT/ERTL and its no use. Can't find a phone number and the weblinks I've found are dead...

Anyone know if the Italieri 1/48 P-70 is similar enough to the AMT/ERTL P-70 (or maybe even the same kit in a different box)  so as to make use of the clear parts?

I Made contact with Italieri and they have a "canopy kit" (kit number 2724). Its about 6 euro, delivered.

I could probably buy another complete AMT/ERTL kit of the early A-20 or the same P-70, but then I would have the same issue for the other kit. What I would really like find is a partial kit of the early A-20 with the clear plastic.

The Squadron canopy set works for the P-70 and I can make the life raft compartment cover. I can also shape the other small clear parts from other clear parts I have lying around, but I still need to make or find the rear gunner's glass and the tail position light cover - I'm not a good enough modeler to make a canopy.

I'm going to order the FSM book on 25 years of modeling tips. Any other ideas?

Thanks to everyone.

Looking forward to getting the kit started.

Thinking of building a examples of  night fighters used by the USAAF in WWII and plan to start with the P-70, since it was the first chosen by the Air Service in early '42.

This is the list so far:

-  Beaufighter in US markings

-  P-70

-  P-38J Night Lightning

-  P-61A (early, w/turret) in Invasions stripes

May also look at building examples of aircraft normally used by the US Navy but wearing USAAF colors. For example; the Curtis SB2C Helldiver/A-25 Shrike.

So much I'd like to do, so little time...

Cheers to all.

Welcome, Takhli!

If no one has the parts, you might consider a vacuform canopy.  Here's a link to Sqaudron's set for the A-20G:

www.squadron.com/.../sq9550.htm

I have the AMT A-20 kits, for conversion into the P-70.  I'm trying to remember, but I think some P-70's were A-20A's, while the later marks were equivalent to the -G.  I have the Squadron "In Action" book, I'll have to look it up to confirm.

I second Eric, too, you might want to post this in the Aircraft subforum (or just ask the moderators, like Tim, to move the post for you), it might get more visibility there.

Again, welcome to the forum, welcome back to the hobby, and I look forward to seeing your P-70 build!

Welcome to the forum Takhli77!

I don't have those parts available but have you tried contacting AMT for the clear part?  I know that Revell/Monogram has awesome customer service when it comes to replacing missing or damaged parts through their web site.  I'm not sure if AMT has something like that but it might be worth a look.

As for the rest, you might get a better response if you post your question in the "Aircraft" forum.

Please help: Need clear plastic parts for the AMT/ERTL Douglas P-70 Night Fighter

Hello everyone. I'm just starting my return to plastic modeling after many years away from the hobby.

Found a nice "complete" kit of the AMT/ERTL Douglas P-70 Night Fighter but when I received it I found that its missing the clear plastic parts.

Any one out there have a kit that's been bashed, but still have these pieces, or can anyone recommend where to get them.

Also looking for a Cheyenne waist for the 1/48 scale Monogram B-17G, if anyone knows.

looking forward to the forum.

Thanks.
