Welcome to the Forum!
My son started to do gaming figures and kept asking for black primer and them showed me that was most used. Maybe its better for fantasy figures or something. I will give grey a try on the next model. Thanks for your comments
I usually try different primers on a donor model to see which one makes the finish coat look better.

I keep hitting "escape", but I'm still here.
Ye, an Alclad finish is the one exception where I have seen people use a black primer, I use black myself. Apart from Alclad, I have only just started using primer on models. I am using grey and one of the first kits I used it on was the panther for the D-Day GB. And you guessed it, that was grey plastic.

Bish Welcome aboard. Not sure about people using black primer, most do seem to use grey. I think black would only be useful when do a very dark finish.

WELCOME TO THE FORUMS
Only new here but I have been modeling for a very long time off and on. Started with aircraft, moved to 1/25th trucks, gave up for many years now back into 1/48th & 1/72nd vehicles and 1/144th aircraft.
Question:In the old days everyone used white or grey as a primer but now I see black being used more and more. Can anyone please enlighten me as to the pros and cons of the white/grey v black. Surely black would not be easy to cover if the finished model was to be a light colour or is there more to it?
Looking forward to learning more from the people on the forum.
