Hello FSM
Posted by Rob Bye on Friday, January 30, 2015 10:23 AM

Hi there, I'm a new member from Winnipeg, Canada.

I haven't actually built a kit in over forty years, but I'm looking at getting back into this. Right now I'm doing a lot of research and taking notes. An extra room has come available in the house, and I might've finally acquired the patience needed for intricate work like this. :)

Anyway, I don't have anything useful to contribute just yet, but I'll be around soaking up as much good info as I can. Thanks for letting me join in.

Thank you all, very much for the warm welcome!

It's kind of odd; while information is so much more freely available now, as opposed to forty years ago, there are far fewer local hobby shops to visit. I wonder if this is going to be an internet based hobby for me. We have only a few local hobby shops, and if you lumped them together, they wouldn't come close to equalling what was my favourite store, back in the day.

Welcome to the Forums Rob!  Glad to have you aboard!

I think that most of us feel the same way about the LHS.  We all had our favorites that disappeared and we were left with using the internet.  That tends to take business away from the remaining LHS, but I guess that's the way it goes.  I do some shopping with the vendors at the shows we go to and get the rest on the internet as the closest LHS is quite a few miles away and his prices are terrible.  Most of the vendors have good discounts at the shows.

Congrats on getting the spare room.  I got mine when the last son went off to college.  Enjoy!
