Hello everyone
Posted by mmthrax on Thursday, December 7, 2017 1:24 AM

Brand new to the forum and the magazine.  Been on the Scale Auto side of things.  I got a Zorro that I want to build for my dad and feel that this is the place to be to have a chance of "doing it right".  I have never built anything other than cars and it looks like you guys do it all.  Quite well, in fact.

I am a great "assembler".  What I would like to accomplish is the ability to "think outside the box".

I want to test my creativity through the medium of models and push my limits.  I want to become proficient with painting, putty, casting, and the like.

I am happy to be on the forum and look forward to learning from and interacting with fellow members.

Just keep picking away at it...

Welcome to the Forums! Glad to have you aboard!

If you check out the "Figures" section of the Forums, there are lots of members there that are very knowledgeable and ready to help you out with any questions/problems that you might have. Good luck with your build and be sure to post pics of the build when finished.

First you have to get the model "OUT OF THE BOX". ( sometimes I use a hammer ...... oh... wait ... thats "DISSASSEMBLY"! )

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.  I really appreciate it.  I just posted an airplane I did two years ago I had forgotten about.  It accomplished the goals I had at the time.  I can't wait to get started on the next one.  I'll check out the figures forum and chat with you soon.  Best regards.

Welcome!

The only "dumb" questions here are the ones that don't get asked.

I recently built my first, and only, large scale figure, and hey it was really fun and even made the mag. I would love to see yours.

Welcome to the forum!  Is that the old Aurora Zorro kit?  I hope you post some pictures soon.

Best regards,

Brad

Thank you Bill.  I will for sure be asking questions.  I'll start with "Which issue is your figure in?"  I would love to check it out.

Thanks also to you Brad.  To answer your question, the Zorro is from Atlantis.  I have added a pic of the instructions, and a card that was in the model.  The company is asking modelers which kits they should bring to market.  From the looks of the list, it appears to be old Aurora stuff.  I guess they bought the rights.

If you read the last paragraph in the instructions, they mention the old Aurora kit being popular and state "Atlantis takes great pride in representing this classic kit after an absence of more than 40 years!"

It sounds like they want to represent a quality kit and not a cheap knock-off.  Having never seen an original I can't make any kind of comparison, however, I look forward to building this kit and I will post the WIP, so we can all see how the kit goes together.

Best regards

Ah, OK, cool!  Yeah, it's a re-release, of sorts, which is not a detraction, just interesting to know the history of a kit.  That'll make a dramatic presentation when you've finished!
