Welcome to the Forums Phil! Glad to have you aboard!

You've come to the right place. You'll get all the help you need here. A lot of us got here the same way. I've been building for 71 of my 77 years plus the other usual hobbies of R/C planes, cars and sailboats, trains, indoor microfilm planes, 1/1 drag racing. Learned a lot on these forums. These are the best guys around.

Have 1 tip for you. Post your question in the aircraft section of the forums. You should get all the help you need there. If you need additional help, post it in the painting section. Lots of great help there too.

Hope that this helps.

I keep hitting "escape", but I'm still here.

Thabk you for the kind welcome and I'll more likely than not post my question in a more appropiate forum. I've got a lot of catching up to do!

 Howdy !

You will find "LOT'S " of folk's here with any answer you need.

I'm not one of them...... truth be told ..... my advice usually result's in "BOTCHED" paint and part's cut in half for no reason.

But I am good for a laugh or two........ I think ?

Anyway's, Welcom to FSM!

Dont worry about the thumbprint, paint it Rust , and call it "Battle Damage"

Greetings from Phil. Being retired for some years and at the age of 70 I decided to get myself occupied with doing some scale modeling aside from the everyday tedium of keeping up a house.  I’m not at all new to forum sites as I once owned and ran one for some years (not hobby related).  Anyway, I’m sure to have a crap load of questions and I’m currently working on my first one which is an Eduard 1:48 Hellcat F6F-3. As far as I can remember the last model I built was when I was around 14 and then we mostly just slapped them together with Testors glue and threw on some spray paint and things have obviously come a long way since then. I also, for what it’s worth, did some R/C flying back in the late 70’s and early 80’s.

I started working on the Hellcat back in October but I’m going slowly as I’m considering this as a learning project and of course still in the process aquiring various essentials. I’m interested in doing planes, but eventually I’d like to take on a tank, but one step at a time. I somewhat jumped in head first as I currently already have two airbrushes (Iwata Eclipse HP-CS –used, but mint condition and a H&S Evolution – new), spray booth and various other things, paints, craft tools, etc.

I was going to save a question I had on the Hellcat for later, but as long as I’m here:  I’m at the point of doing pre-shading (which I’ve never done before, and not looking forward to), but seeing that the under belly of the Hellcat is white should I stay with black, or perhaps use a dark grey? I’m not at all too concerned with doing any pre-shading on the top as it will be Navy Blue which is very dark and any pre-shading would not show through anyway. Who knows, perhaps someone who is reading this post has already built this very same plane. Like I previously mentioned, this is a learning project but at the same time I’d rather not screw it all up at this point in time and stage of progress.

Thanks for your anticipated help, and once again… Greetings!

~Phil~
