Greetings from Canada
Posted by banthafodder on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 2:04 PM

Hey everyone,

I have been modelling since I was a kid, my grandfather got me into it, he was an airplane fanatic, and had a bunch of R/C planes and some display models too.  I like working on aircraft models the most, but I have done a little of everything over the years.  I took a long break from the hobby, and I'm back in it again.  I have spent more time collecting kits than building lately, but I'm trying to change that lol.  I just signed up for the forum, and I have already learned a few new things already, so that makes me happy.  This seems to be a great community with people from all over the world, and I think I will enjoy my time here :)

Welcome to the Forums! Glad to have you aboard!

You have gotten here the same way as most of the members. We caught the disease at a young age, had it sitting dormant for a while, then it showed up again at an older period in our lives. So welcome back to Plasticaholics Anonymous. Like most of us you also tried a little of everything else too. Hope that you decide to stay with us. The members here are very knowledgeable and are ready to help you out with any problems/questions that you might have. Don't be afraid to ask for help. You will probably get a lot more answers to your questions than you are looking for. That's the way it is around here.

Soooooo, sit back and relax, have a sip or two of your favorite brew whether it be CoffeeBeerDrinks, or my favorite Toast and build away. Be sure to post pics of your builds so we can see how you're doing.

I've been building for 71 of my 77 years and my favorites are WWI & WWII planes followed by sailing ships and then anything else that strikes my fancy (and my wallet says OK).

I am in Hamilton, Ontario, which is fairly close to Toronto, right on the western end of Lake Ontario.  I'm lucky, the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum is in the city, and it's home to one of two flying Avro Lancasters, the other one is in the UK.  They have all kinds of vintage aircraft, so it's easy to get photos for any projects.

Welcome Sign  Nice to have a resource so close to home.  I am a bit jealous.  Looking forward to seeing some of your builds.

You are correct that this is a helpful community.  Most of the world thinks we are "just not right" for having this interest, so we have to stick together.  LOL.

Dwayne or Dman or just D.  All comments are welcome on my builds.

Lol, I know, people look at you funny.  I would like to go to the Hendon RAF museum one day, and Bovington too, while I'm at it.  Some day...

And yes, I am close to Crystal Beach, it's about an hour away from here, I went there a few times as a kid :)

I have spent more time collecting kits than building lately, but I'm trying to change that lol.

Howdy !

Good luck with that !  Every time I see a kit ( in a store, garage sale, dumpster ) I HAVE to have it ! No one on this forum will be able to help you with that. L O L !

Welcome to FSM !

Dont worry about the thumbprint, paint it Rust , and call it "Battle Damage"

Yeah ;

You know I never forgot either Crystal Beach or that wonderful Steamer . She had windows inside so you could see all the polished moving things in the engine room . I think she may have been a sidewheeler at one time .

I would like to ask you a favor right away . Could you find out where any history of that boat could be ? Please . Tanker - Builder      P.S - Might it be in the Hamilton History Archives or something like that ?

Actually I found this article on Wikipedia, and a few other sources have pretty much the same information.

Yeah, Crystal Beach was a hoot! My pals and me used to go there in the 80s until they tore it down and put the sub-divsion there:-( Never got to take my kids there. The Comet was my favorite ride..lol The Canadiana was in Buffalo for a while, I think it then went to Port Colborne like it says but scrapped. Theres the SS Keewatin on Georgian Bay who give tours and they use it making movies and stuff.http://www.keemediagroup.com/the-documentary-1.html Cheers.
