Making a comeback after 26 years

Welcome to the forum and back to modelling. I too recently got back into static models. Been doing RC stuff for over 50 yrs so that took away my need for building displays. I also looked at the new models and was a bit intimidated. I am doing a History of mostly Military flight all in 1/32 and the amount of amazing detail, large number of pieces and PE  at first got me wondering if I had took too big of a bite. I am also building some 1/96 ships of sail too. 

I found all the help I needed right here with this great group of builders and on LSP. When it comes to CA, I have several bottles that I been using on/off for a few years. Refrigerator storage is only needed if you live in tropical climates without AC. My trick is to keep air out. What I do is put a few drops on a cutting board or something similiar and before I let air get back into bottle I put the cap back on. I have only had a few bottles over the years go bad. Hope to get some tips from the people here, for example, how to keep cyanoacrylate from drying up/turning solid in the bottle (never been able to use the stuff or keep it for any length of time).

I heard that if you store it in the refridgerater, it will hold up better. So I tried it and came to two conclusion's

1 : The fridge is too far away from my workbench. I had to keep getting up to get the "stupid"glue !

2 : I never really noticed an "Increase" in the glue's shelf life.

If you can keep the tip of the glue clear, and cap it "immidietlly" after using it, ..... you "may" get to use 1/2 the bottle  ..... before it turn's into a crystal chandelier of sorrow.

Glad you're back in the modelling field I'm getting back into it after 5 years. I don't regret it becasue life happened and it was out of my control. I was just getting to the point where I had mastered an Aztek airbrush and was getting into an Iwata and then....boom. 

Don't let those modern kits intimidate you. If anything many of today's kits are well designed and loads better than many of the kits I started with when I was 9. I still pick up some of those older kits to practice new techniques and skills on and it does give you a great sense of accomplishment when you finish them. Just remember to have fun and not take it too seriously....if you can ;-)

As far as CA, it still has it's uses but you will find that many modern plastic cements are loads better than what we had as kids. I don't have any ideas either about how to keep it from drying out or gelling. I will use 1/3 or a bottle before it goes bad.

  There are lots of tips on the forum, and continue to ask questions.  Really helpful folks here.  Can't help you with the CA question.  I've had the same issue.  I am sure someone will weigh in with helpful advice.

Welcome aboard. Don't let the high detail of modern kits put you off, they are still just kits.
