Replacing brake cylinder diaphragms on Renwal Visible Auto Chassis Model
Posted by renwal rob on Friday, February 16, 2018 4:22 AM

I'm new to this forum, but have been building models for many years, and I'm particularly fond of the large 1/4 scale Renwal visible engine series. I'm currently stumped by the brake cylinder in my Visible Auto Chassis. The kit I purchased must have been exposed to heat, because the little balloons that are supposed to act as diaphragms in the cylinder were all fused together and unusable. Does anyone out there have some advice or a recommendation for replacing these diaphragms so that my brake cylinder works?

Hi,

Sorry that I don't have any input to help with your problem, but welcome to the forum, and I am looking forward to seeing how your 1/4 chasis turns out.  Ever since I heard of that kit I have been fascinated by it, but have never seen many pictures of it. Smile

There's quite a market out there with toy and kit parts. I've found stuff like replacement parts for the old gas station give away cars and oil tankers. GI Joe stuff, McDonald's Happy Meal toys.

I see a lot of Renwal stuff on eBay, so look around from that angle.

Good luck!

If you could post a picture of the part's in question, it would help.

Off the top of my head, I would suggest Looking at diaphram's in aquarium air pump's. But I would need to see a picture to tell you what size of pump to "canablize".

If the part really is a "balloon" check in a Party type store. They will have all kind's of balloon's to chose from.

By The Way ..... Welcome to FSM.

 Dont worry about the thumbprint, paint it Rust , and call it "Battle Damage"

Hi Rob ;

 Welcome . In amswer to your question . Are those parts even similar to " O " Rings found in say Hypodermic syringes for Diabetics ? If so that might solve your problem .The end of the plunger has a semi-"O " ring and a shape like a small balloon otherwise.

 I used to use my wife's discards for that kind of stuff . I did a PONTIAC for a court case that could've used that chassis . That's what I used for both the Master cylinder and the Wheels .

 I did use a slightly larger syringe for the Master Cylinder
