So many kits, so many tools, so many supplies (paints, washes, pigments, etc.).

 

 

Just a follow up after a month. So, I'm in danger of becomming a kit collector instead of a modeller. I've bought a dozen+ kits and started . . . 2, and finished  . . . 0.

And screwed up the first one when a tiny jockey wheels went flying into oblivion while I was sanding the sprue nub from the tree. Sigh. Honestly, I knew I should start with an AFV. It seems like they should be easier than a/c, but they never were when I was young, and it seems to have held true.

So, I put the kit back in the box, and started on the easiest kit possible--a hobbyboss Easy to Assemble La-7. Talk about very few parts! Just my speed. Started pre-painting some things on the sprue this morning, and hopefully won't lose any parts by this evening. . .

Well, we all become kit collectors at some point. You know, just had an idea so now I have to go get the kit...for down the road. For a future build. I've been back in the hobby for just over a year and I've completed seven kits but I have 40+ boxes stacked up in the closet waiting their turn. As for errors, every completed kit on my shelf has at least one error that continue to nag me. But what the hey, I (we'll) do better next time. As some would say: Press on regardless.

Welcome, dive in, and enjoy!  Don't be afraid to ask questions, the folks on this forum are very helpful.

Some posts will take a while to be answered as there are different time zones involved, work schedules, and different countries. Some can be answered immediately and some take a while depending on the question, who answers and how long it takes to dig up the info you're looking for. Have no fear, we try not to leave anyone hanging too long.

What subject matter do you plan to build?

Well, my 'druthers would be ship models, but I did WW2 armor and a/c in my youth. I bought a half dozen kits already and plan to start on the Airfix Pearl Harbor kit (a Zero and a P-40 in 1/72) to get back into the grove and start airbrushing and all the other weathering effects I did not understand/bother with last time I built kits. Eventually, if I feel competant enough, I want to do pre-dreadnaughts and dreadnaught era warships.

Welcome to forums Brian.  And we have another Floridian!  Not sure where in Florida you are, but there are lots of shows during the year.  I go to Modelpalooza in Orlando in Sept, there is a Venice show the 24th of this month that is really good.  There is one every other year in Largo, Florida.  I'd like to go to the one in Jacksonville someday, and I have gone to the one at the Navy Aviation museum in Pensacola..a long time ago.

You came to the "Wrong" place for that ! We have way's of making you want to buy more... more ...more ! I only have about 100 or so kit's stacked up all over the place..... soon , you will be "One of us" and have enough kit's to last you till the year 2765.

Welcome from a fellow Floridian!  What subject matter do you plan to build?  If you are in the Orlando area you should come to one of the ipms orlando build days or meetings to talk shop with fellow modellers or go to your local chapters meet ups.

As you probably figured out by now, model building is a disease that we share in common. It's very addictive, that's why we all return to it over and over again. We are members of Plasticaholics Anonymous. You say that you will resist the temptation to buy a lot of kits but that is what we all said at one time or another. I myself have around 300 kits in my "stash". The temptation is just too great to resist.

My favorites are WWI & WWII planes followed by sailing ships. But I build anything that strikes my fancy and my wallet says OK.
