I keep hitting "escape", but I'm still here.
Welcome back to the hobby, Mike, and to the forum!
Yeah, many of us have gone through a similar experience-giving up modeling for other things, then coming back. I let the hobby sit after I graduated from high school (1982) and came back to it about 15 years later, after having taken up casting and painting toy soldiers in between. I was surprised to see the developments that had taken place, especially the availability of aftermarket products to add the details that I just thought everyone scratchbuilt (I grew up on Shep Paine's "Tips On Building Dioramas"). I was surprised, too, how manufacturers who used to include figures in their kits had eliminated them. And also, the number of smaller companies, producing short-run kits of obscure subjects. And of course, how much we use the Internet to communicate and share the hobby.
It's interesting that you say you enjoyed rigging your Camel, but you don't like to mask canopies. I find both to be a chore
I look forward to seeing your builds!
Best regards,
Brad

keavdog Welcome! Wow 30 years. I took 4 or so years off and am amazed at what's new in terms of manufacturers, kits, products and techniques.

Well, that just depends on which four years you took off, Keav!
Thanks,

hello all! Like the title says, I recently came back to modeling after a hiatus of a few decades. I had been wanting to start again for a while but was always too busy with work and all my other hobbies but with some encouragement from my partner I took the plunge and visited my local hobby shop to get started.
That was six months ago and I've built about 15 planes and one tank. They mostly came out terrible thanks to my lack of painting skills but I recently got an airbrush and compressor and have improved mightily. My last kit was a WNW Sopwith Camel " Le Rhone" which I thoroughly enjoyed and found challenging. My favorite part has been the rigging and my least favorite has to be masking canopies.
On the bench now is the Revell 1/32 spitfire mk ixc. Cockpit is almost done, just waiting for some PE seat belts to arrive, along with a canopy masking set.
