Greetings from NE Indiana!
Posted by phillm47 on Thursday, September 6, 2018 2:39 PM

Hello fellow forum members,

For all intents and purposes I am a modeling newbie. I did some modeling when I was in the 6th & 7th grade, but that was 45-46+ years ago.  Since then life has brought a family, a career and all the committments that go along with both. My wife and I have become empty nesters and have downsized considerably. This has left me with some free time on my hands.

Modeling appears to be an enjoyable way to engage one's self and decompress at the same. I have always had an appreciation for modeling, especially of military subjects. While lurking in the fourms here at FineScaleModeling I have discovered a great community of friendly people who freely share a weath of knowledge.

As stated earlier, I am a modeling newbie, but I am an avid DYI'er and was into R/C airplanes for awhile about 10 years ago. Today I ordered a Revell 1/144 U-Boat Typ VIIC/41 Atlantic Version kit for a first project. After watching various youtube videos this kit appears to be engaging but doable. Plus, I have a strong interest in the subject. Looking forward to a fun learning experience!

I know I will be a "taker" of knoweldge for awhile here at the forums, but maybe someday hopefully I can pay it forward.

Thanks,

Marty

Welcome, Marty. Welcome Sign

Man, have you come to the right place. We don't get a lot of beginners here and I'll just bet most of us are champing at the bit to drive you nuts with helpful tips and advice.

And I'm almost you're neighbor, up in the South Bend general area. Not too many Hoosiers here, either. That, or nobody wants to admit it.

Welcome, Marty!

It's a great hobby because it has so many facets. Don't hesitate to try different things in order to keep life varied and to learn different skills.

Looks like Greg & Clint are practically neighbors!

I promise to post progress pics once this project is under way. In the meantime, collecting tools/supplies and  studying these forums is the order of the day.

I thank you all for such a warm welcome!

OK, Mr. Guru (this is me joking and respecting you at the same time), how did you hyperlink an FSM url on this forum? I have not been able to hyperlink a url that points back to this fourm. I'm very curious on how you did this, if you don't mind instructing. This grasshopper is ready to learn.

And I just tried it in a another thread, and I'm still not able to link it. Sad

EDIT: Ha! I figured it out! I will thank you anyway, and I will check out your WIP! And a big thanks for dealing with my quirks!

Ha! no worries...I had to do a little research and type it in 'old school'

{url=http://thelink}LINK{/url}

{ and } equals [ and ], hope that makes sense, but you figured it out!
