Hi, VMF214, and welcome.

There a lot of us on the forums with the vision struggles. FSM had an article a few years ago that talked about the same issue with suggestions on solutions. I had to laugh when I started to read the article because I had just reached or was a couple of years passed the age referenced in the article as the start of most vision problems. If I can find the article, I'll let you know.

Welcome back to the hobby and I hope to see some of your work in the future.

Welcome to the Forums! Glad to have you aboard.

I'm also a member of the failing eyesight group and shaky hands. Harbor Freight has some optivisors pretty cheap. You could also get drugstore reading glasses pretty cheap. I use 2X when working at the bench and the optivisor if I need to get closer. Can't do anything about the shakey hands though. Those darn freight trains keep coming by under the bench every time I'm working there. Have to learn how to work around them.

I've heard a lot of good things about those Molotow Chrome pens but haven't needed one "yet".

Good luck and looking forward to seeing your builds.

I keep hitting "escape", but I'm still here.

Speaking of the opti-visor, do have any recommendation? I don’t need the “Cadillac“ but I don’t want the cheapest thing out there either.

Welcome.  If it weren't for my specs and optivisor I couldn't build anything.

Thanks,

John

Welcome to the gang! If you want something to chrome with other than foil, try the Molotow chrome pens, some folks really like those.

Back after a 15 year hiatus.
Posted by VMF214 on Monday, January 21, 2019 11:53 AM

Greetings all, I started modeling again after a 15 year hiatus. I used to do a lot of Nascar models but burned out on that. I have always been mini WWII historian and favor WWI planes and ships. I saw someone posted about failing eyesight and I'm currently in that battle also. I am currently working on a '69 Camaro that I starte a LONG time ago and the 1966 Batmobile (for my son). I'm having a heck of a time with bare-metal foil but I'm slugging my way through. I look forward to learning as much as I can from you guys!
