Has anyone designed and printed 3d models turning them into kits? Thoughts?
That is one of my ideas, once I get a 3D printer...

I don't know the answer to your question. I have seen model parts 3d-printed, and have used some of them. But I don't know about full kits.
Nevertheless: welcome to the Forums!
Hello!
There's a thread on making such a kit, here:

and here:

My thoughts are:
The hardest part is to get your hands on and learn how to use good 3D design program.
Don't buy a 3D printer - buy the time on good machines that are already there. This way you're saving lots of time setting the machine up and maintaining it. This time can be put into what really matters - the design. And a 3D printer offering the quality necessary for modelling subjects won't fit in your personal budget anyway
And I think this technology has already revolutionized the hobby - at least for me. But I also see more and more resin aftermarket sets that are cast off 3D printed masters.
Good luck with your modelling projects and have a nice day

Hi,
Here is a link to some work that I did on making a scratch built 1/300 scale cruise ship http://cs.finescale.com/fsm/modeling_subjects/f/44/t/176332.aspx
I haven't finished it yet, because some other stuff has come up. In addition I also have a 1/350 scale 3D printed warship I am scratchbuilding and I have also found some smale scale tank models online (mostly designed for wargaming, but whci can maybe be scaled up).
I addtion, I have also located some early WW2 French armor 3D models that I am looking into trying to convert to something printable as well.

Thanks! I think your link is wrong. I wanna see what you did!

It's always a good thing to hear new ideas. Do pursue this, in model subject forums.
Modeling is an excuse to buy books.
