Welcome, Blaine! Sounds like you flew out of Moffett Field, near where I grew up.

If the patrol planes are the old Hasegawa models, they are not really up to the latest standards in terms of buildability. The Neptune is a good looking model, but it fought me all the way.

Yes I did fly out of moffet, VP31 at the time it was a training squadron (P3c) VS82 (S2) was out of Alameda, as was Vp878 reserve (P2v) 

The Hasegawa model of the P2 is the only one I could find. 

What was interesting about the P2 was it gave you a feel for what the WWII guys flew, non presurized, slow, didn't handle well, and slow. 

I'm orginally from Los Gatos.

Yes, slow was reduncant, I wasn't attempting to enphasize the speed of the P2. CDF is using a few of them, and I see where they have converted some of their S2s to turbo props. In it's time the P2 was a great ASW aircraft. 

I think I have some old pictures of the P2 floating around, one taken from the nose, (the MAD operatiors position.)

I once loved Los Gatos, lived out on Kennedy Rd, went to LG high back in the 60s, it is much different today, most of the locals from my era are gone now.

I wasn't aware pictures needed to come from a sharing site. I'll get set up on one asap. 

Real aviator, well the real aviators were the WWII pilots, today it is enter the flight plan, take off and let auto take you to your destination, and try to stay awake on long flights. Too boring for me. After the military I flew crop dusters for a while, then after using up eight of my nine lives I got into other ventures. Never was interested in the airlines and they had their pick of pilots back then. 

Are you old enough to remember when the silcon valley was actually an agricutural community, lot of orchards. There were three or four canneries in San Jose back in the 60s 

I was right on the cusp of the tech industry, when the big dogs were HP, Ampex.

Palo Alto had a lot of nursery operations out by the Bay, and we shot rabbits in the orchards down in Los Altos.
