Hello from New York

Hi Everyone!

My name is George and I am looking to get back into model building after 36 years!

I was looking to get some information.  What exactly do I need tools and equipment wise, to start up again?

There are two cars in particular I would like to get ahold of.  The first is a 1967-1968 Cadillac Coupe Deville convertible.  I owned a 67 Sedan Deville hardtop, it was magical.  The connection to the road, the simplicity of the engine bay.  Two radiator hoses, two heater hoses, eight plug wires and a bunch of vacuum lines!  And that pointed front grill with its double stacked headlights!  Like a GTO on steroids!  I have seen a few pictures of an old model box of a 1968 Coupe Deville called 'The Big Boss' by the Johan company

Has anyone heard of them?  Are they still available?  Does anyone else make kit?

My second goal would be to find a 1934 Auburn Boattail Speedster.  That is one of the most gorgeous vehicles I have ever seen!  More a work of art!

If anyone could help me out in locating one or both of my dream kits, I would be so grateful and appreciative.  I also welcome any ideas, thoughts, suggestions, and opinions!

Thank you all for the time and have a safe and happy July 4th!

Respectfully,

George D.

Welcome to the Forums!

Sorry I can't offer any help with your kit search; maybe someone else has information.

Jo-han kits haven't been around for a while.  They produced at least a couple of airplane kits, as well as a lot of cars.  I still have a Bf-109 from them, dating from the 1970's.

Wikipedia has an article about Jo-han's story.  It mentions another company that took over Jo-han, but hasn't "offered" any kits recently.

Welcome back, and to the forum as well.

As to those older kits, might keep an eye on ebay, and the old model kits webpage.  Check scalemates for what was ever made of the subject you are looking for.

As to tools, a decent hobby knife, pack of #11 blades, a "sprue cutter" some sanding sticks (check out the nail area of the cosmetics section of a box store), couple of different glues(I like Tamiya extra thin, green top jar)some decent brushes (I get mine at Hobby Lobby).  Paints  and the recommended thinners for whatever you end up with.  You will add to things as time goes on.  If you start getting into PE (photo etch, in brass or steel) you'll need to use either CA or other type of glue for it, but don't sweat that at the moment.

Just have fun, it will all be good.  Any questions, just ask away, this bunch will steer you on the right path,,,,they do it on a daily basis for me.

Hi George !

Welcome to the forums. Now as to your question. Deans and Fred Stern might be able to help you out on those kits .They are vendors that buy and sell collections and individual items. I have had good luck with both.

Fred is right there in New York state, Namely Buffalo!-- Tanker-Builder
