I started building in 1986 or so and my last project was started on march 7, 2008 but never finished. Two days ago I started poking around what was once my work area, hidden behind exercise equipment that for some reason became clothe hangers. Today I began the process of inventoring my tools and cleaning them. The work station is quite still organized except for the dust that has accumulated in the past 11 years. Hopefully some of my paint is salvageable, but I doubt it. Perhaps by this weekend everything will be fully operational.
I have purchased many models and never built them, at last count about 103 kits. I prefer models from Japanese companies since I can read Japanese. I mostly build, probably more accurately collect, models of WW II. When I stopped building, I was collecting 1/35 scale models for the Japanese Battleship Yamato with the pipe dream of actually building a ship of that scale. Problem lies with where does one keep a 24.7 foot long battleship.
The good thing is with so many kits I don't have to worry about making mistakes when I start building again. In the past I always picked up what I call 'krap kits' where I practice new techniques and then apply them to actual builds. This will now be period of relearning lost skills and perfecting new ones. I never was a fan of airbrushing or spray painting and just learned the rudiments of the latter. But from the models that were spray painted turned out pretty nice. So this will be a perfect opportunity to learn how use an airbrush. Perhaps look to see if there is a community class that teaches such a thing.
Anyways, I'm glad to be here and I hope to learn and help out.
