Yes indeed, we need more of that.

Welcome!

Ok got it sorted out. A little more lacquer thinner, airbrush a little closer and a wet coat. Finish looks good.
Thanks all.

That's great to hear. Yes

That was nice of you to report back that things are working now.

Ben having trouble with Tamiya liquid primer. Tried air brushing with the results not good. Chalky finish which can easily be rubbed off. Thoughts?

What are you thinning the Tamiya with for airbrushing? Tamiya Liquid Primer sticks like glue in my experience and your results sound very uncharacteristic. I use lacquer Thinner myself and the stuff works flawlessly.

I have always used Tamiya Surface Primer in the can with great results. HS was out of it but they suggested the liquid primer stating that it was the same paint. Anyway I think you're right re: spray distance. Too far away, the paint is drying before it reaches the plastic. Yes I did thin it.
Thanks.

This is the first negative report on Tamiya primer I've read here. Something has to be amiss, it is among the best.

Out of the bottle, for airbrush use, it needs to be well-stirred. Also, it needs to be sprayed on slightly wet. I wonder if you might be spraying too far away, can result in paint drying in the air before it hits the model surface?

Tamiya says it can be thinned with lacquer thinner for airbrush use, have you tried that?

Only thought I have is Stynylrez. I paint with only Tamiya but for primer this has been my go to. I do brush Tamiya primer on seems that need sanding but I spray prime with the stynylrez. I'm not sure if the liquid Tamiya primer is intended to be sprayed but someone will know.
