Welcome to the Forums!

I would think something fairly simple to begin with.  I remember being 8 years old, and the complicated stuff was kind of off-putting and frustrating.

Airfix has a line of "quick build" things.  Altho' a UK company, they have a US distributor.

Hope you too have fun together, no matter what you're building.

Hello all,

My eight year old is turning in to quite the military history buff and I thought he might enjoy completing models from WWI or WWII; however, I don't know where to start or which brands to look at! Any help or suggestions on models that he and I can do together would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Melissa

Hey! You can buy model kits from Hobby Lobby or Michaels. I recommend looking at the selection there. Those stores have supplies to choose from, too. Paintbrushes, enamel paints, acrylic paints, glue, etc...

Personally, the second model kit I ever built was a 1/48 scale Douglas Dauntless by the company Revell; so, I recommend starting out with a Revell model. Big Smile

Welcome to the hobby!

Hey all, so this is why I am here.  My husband used to be a builder, but health issues have kept him from that, he enjoyed WWi German builds, 1/35 scale - Panthers, King Tigers etc.....since he no longer does this he suggested I sek out help for a problem we have in this community;

Good Afternoon:

I have an odd question, do you have anyone out that way (specifically in the 94928 zip code) who does modeling with die cast / or metal?  That is a master air brusher….

This is my dilemma, I have an amplifier (well my husband does) that sustained some damage.  I have attached 2 attachments, a before damage pic – where you can see how flawless the face plate of this amp is and the damage pics.  The situation in a nutshell is this;

The jewel/light, casing/nut was, and should not have been, applied on this amp with adhesive used on it, thus making it next to IMPOSSIBLE to remove. They were able to do it eventually but there was some visible damage sustained, see the orange/yellow lines…under the orange one is pretty visible, the yellow one maybe a bit less but none the less there.

We shipped the amp from SC back to the amp maker in Rohnert Park, CA….according to them they are limited in what they can do with it as the faceplate you are looking it…..is part of a whole piece – 3rd attachment (the chassis) – so in that 3rd attachment the entire piece you see in the pics with the knobs is totally removable from the case and id ONE entire piece, so not a matter of swapping it out L

My husband being a former small scale modeler (not doing it know due to health issues) thinks that someone who knew what they were doing with an airbrush and someone who knew how to sand, putty etc….may be able to fix this.  Since it is one whole piece this person would have to go to the amp make location in Rohnert Park.  Amp maker has advised that the paint is some sort of powder based paint so not sure what that would even mean or entail.  But I am looking for someone who can work with metal, mask, sand fix and repaint to this would look good as new.

Any suggestions?

Thanks Kat
