Hi! Welcome to the Forums! Glad to have you aboard. Welcome back to the hobby.

My 2 cents. I think that you did a nice neat job on the build itself. I'll try to help out with the other questions. I always apply a matte or flat finish to the completed armor model to protect any decals and paint details on it even if it is for display only. If the 1/1 has a glossy finish, then I'd use a gloss finish on the model. I use mostly Vallejo Model Air for airbrushing. Sometimes I use craft acrylics if the color I need isn't available. For fine glossy details sometimes I use Testors Mosel Master enamels.

If you go to the Armor section of the forums, there are many members who can give you all the help and advice that you need. I've discovered that I have just begun to learn about building and finishing armor models.

Hope that I helped a little.

Hello everyone,

I just got back into modeling and wanted to join a large and knowledgeable community.

I started off my more serious modeling phase in my *** years with warhammer 40k miniatures. It has been over a decade since I have done any modeling or painting. (I'm now 26)

I went by my local hobby lobby looking for a model. I wanted a hobby that would be better for the mind than videogames, but more active than reading. They had a Tamiya M4A3E8 Sherman (which is my favorite WWII US tank) on super sale for like $19.99 down from $60. Now, it was probably not the best idea starting off with this model as its complex, but what the heck.

I used the "Model Masters" white lacquer primer and the olive drab enamel spray paints as I do not have an airbrush. I then broke out my best dry brush skills from back in the day to detail the model. I did not do heavy rust, weathering, washing, or use any of the dirt effect stuff. I wanted a cleaner look but used some dry brush to give it a " run throught the trees and foliage" kind of look with some of the paint scuffed off to show the nickel plating underneath the paint. Please tell me how you think my first paint job looks.

I do have one big question for everyone. Do you apply a "varnish" ( gloss or matte) finish to your models if they are purely for display? What brand of paint do you use? Available in aerosol/spray cans? Thanks for any and all feedback!
