Hi from Winnipeg, Canada

Hello everyone
My name is Scott, and I have just joined this site. I love all the information you all contribute...what a great resource!! I myself love modelling fighters, although I have recently picked up the idea of mounting on dioramas, and I am really enjoying learning about it.
I am also a teacher, and I am starting up a model club at my school for the students. The interest is tremendous, which is great because I teach at a "poorer" school, and the students need something of interest to do and keep them out of trouble. One problem I am having is trying to get enough funds to secure kits and supplies. Does anyone have any suggestions of where to try?? Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Big Sammy

Welcome to FSM Scott. Good thing you have going there.

Why not run a car wash with your students to raise some funds. Be sure to check out the garage sales in your area, sometimes you can score big.

Enjoy the forums !!!!
Happy Modelling and God Bless Robert

Hi Scott and welcome to the forums. I wish you well on your endeavor. Do you think raffle tickets and model prizes would work to save up money?

Regards, Dan

Hey fellow Manitoban! I was begining to think i was the only one from here
I'm about 3 hours away from Winnipeg and go there fairly often. Have you been to Argus or Tiger Hobbies in Wpg? For lots of kits try looking on Ebay

Welcome!! I wish my school had had a model club. You're doing a great thing. Have you considered asking local businesses? They would probably be willing to help. Try cultivating a relationship with them and see what happens. Ask the local photo development place about film canisters for mixing paint and storing parts, electronics repair shop for old circuit boards to detail with. Little things that most throw away. They would probably save them for you. Saving on supplies means more for kits. Veterans' orgs or civic group might have ideas or be interested in helping out.
