Ex-Marine wants to say "hello"
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, March 29, 2003 11:28 AM
My name is Brian. I just got done in the marines and am now getting back into the hobby. I am 25 and live in Canal Fulton,Ohio.
I mostly do WW2 armor German in 1/35 scale but have recently gotten into the american vehicles. I just got done building Tamiyas old M3A2 Halftrack. I converted it into an M3A1, added Eduard's photoetched detail set, and also added Verlinden's M3A2 stowage set.
I don't know if any of you are helicopter modelers but I was thinking. Tamiya does such great things with their cars, armor, figures, aircraft, and ships, why don't they try their hand at helicopters? Maybe a AH-1 Huey Cobra or a AH-64 Apache? Please feel free to reply with your opinions.

Brian, a hello to you. Welcome! I hope you enjoy your stay here. I agree with you on the choppers. 1/35 would be nice. Again, warm welcome, and thanks for serving your country. God bless the troops.

Welcome Brian,
Hard to say why Tamiya doesn't do helo's. Everybody has a niche I guess. For the helo kits out there I would love to see more resin and photo etch. Maybe I would have more interest in it myself.

I think there could be some interesting subjects coming out of the current gulf war. I was watching an interview with an AH-64 crew member yesterday. Behind him was an Apache that somebody went nuts over with a box of chalk. On the forward end of the cockpit was a chalking rendering of a brick wall with the words "Brick House" in the middle. Under the gunners window was written Gilligan, and under the pilot's window is written "The Skipper". Just below the pilot is some sort of bump out and written on that was "Obi Wan". Add to all this was the fact that this bird was incredibly dirty. Great subject matter. I sure hope somebody is documenting all this.

Thanks for your service and again, welcome to the community.
