After a 51 year modeling hiatus . . .
Posted by KeithRob on Sunday, April 30, 2023 3:41 PM

I'm back.  Richard Nixon was president the last time I built a model.  I am amazed at the resources available for modelers now.  Back in 1972 the magazine "Scale Modeler" was the only thing I remember.  Anyway I have bought an airbrush and compressor which I didn't have as a kid.  I have bought a kit (1/48 scale Tamiya Sherman) and I am going to see how I do.   Thanks Keith

Welcome back!  That is one long hiatus for sure.  I took about 4 years off around 2011 and couldn't beleive the new manufacturers and tech when I got back into it.  Can't imagine your experience.  Look forward to seeing your builds.

Thanks,

John

Welcome back. That's a pretty good kit to get back into it with. It has a diecast hull which will require some CA glue (super glue Krazy glue stuff) to bond parts to the metal. I built it about twenty years ago when Tamiya first released the smaller M4.

I think some of the later releases included a plastic hull vs the heavier diecast hull.

Welc8ome back to the hobby, and welcome to the forum, Keith!

That's a good choice for a build. Tamiya has a good catalog now of 1/48 scale armor kits, beside their 1/35 scale.  I look forward to seeing your build.

Best regards,

Brad

Welcome! I'm new here too. Just curious, which airbrush & compresser did you decide on?

Master Airbrush Cool II Dual Fan Storage Tank with a G44 airbrush.

I have read it is not the greatest airbrush but I figure it will be ok to learn on.  I have zero airbrush experience.

Just keep the airbrush clean. Polishing the needle is nothing but a benefit to you, you don't have to but it will atomize all the better if you do ( that goes for most airbrushes not just the G44). And don't soak anything with the seals on it in lacquer thinner for long periods of time and the brush will treat you fine.
