Hello everyone just coming back into this hobby after 30 odd years away so it's a steep learning curve but hopefully I'll be able to use the experience in this site.

Welcome back to the hobby, DB, and welcome to the forum!

What kind of subjects interest you?

I look forward to seeing your builds!

Best regards,

Brad

Hello everyone just coming back into this hobby after 30 odd years away so it's a steep learning curve but hopefully I'll be able to use the experience in this site.

The manual skills don't change that much...but the innovations in tools and resources available 30 years on might seem overwhelming. But they can also be inspiring. Depending on your chosen areas of modeling, add-ons like photoetch and resin -- to say nothing of 3D printing and 'make your own on the computer at home' decals -- add whole new worlds of possible projects or enhancements.

Again, the 'basics' don't change: just don't try to do everything new at once. Pick a project...try a novelty here and there...and just have fun. There are plenty of metaphorical helping hands available here if you run onto difficulties. Big Smile

Cheers

Greg

Hi DB! Welcome to the Forums! Welcome back to the hobby.

I started building models in 1946 (6 years old) and never quit. All those new tools, add-ons and procedures are an easy learn. As was said above, just take one at a time and you'll do fine. There is one great new tool that is absolutely fantastic and very easy to learn how to use. It's liquid glues. Make building a snap with almost no cleanup. It's Tamiya extra thin glue. Try it. You'll love it. Cuts building time too.

Stay Safe.

Well hello, ya know you can take the man out of modeling but you can't take the modeling out of the man. Meanwhile, some products have come and gone, new ones fill in. More and better kits but some missing links, in some cased lousy plastic compared with old kits. Most any old kit can be found if you don't mind the price.

With all that it's still a great hobby. Welcome back to it ! Surely there is something for everyone who likes models or to model.

One thing I would recommend in using the forums is to check in regularly to the section titled Tools, Techniques an References.  That section has forums on Painting and Airbrushing, Decaling, other Techiques, and several other useful forums.
