New guy here, back to my old hobby after 30+ yrs.
Posted by Bacman on Thursday, December 14, 2023 7:44 AM

Good day all!

I have finally decided to go back to my old hobby of model building after more than 30 yrs, the last time was when I was in 2nd yr high school here in the Philippines. I actually was wondering as to what made me decide to go back into model building now, I guess it just popped in my head to get back into my hobby. I sure find it very helpful in reducing my stress from work and a very good distraction from overthinking. Hoping to learn a lot from you all, I love building tanks & military planes from WWI to the present, same with tanks. I definitely have a lot to learn with this hobby, especially with painting; like what and when should I paint, how to put the decals and a lot more. Thanks in advance.

Hi Bacman! Welcome to the Forums! Welcome back to the Hobby!

As of now, you are a member of Plasticaholics Anonymous. It's a terrible disease that once you get it, it lays dormant for a while then comes back with a vengence. You don't spend as much time with your family as you used to. The wife will complain you spend too much time at the workbench and too much money on the hobby. Ohhhhhhh, it's terrible.Wink Wink

All kidding aside, sit back, relax, have a sip of your favorite brew Toast, and build away. Make sure you post photos of your work. That's what keeps us all happy.

Sray safe.

Welcome to the forum, sounds like you've been on the same path as most of us here. Loved building kits as a kid, then life gets in the way for 30-40+ years Smile.
I too find the hobby relaxing. At least until I drop, spill or otherwise ruin something! But yeah - it feels really good when you complete a build and it measures up to your hopes and expectations.

Welcome!  And as you scramble around for tips, feel free to set some of them on the back shelf with a note that you'll work on them after getting back through the basic stuff.  The advanced techniques are called "advanced" because they assume the basics are already under control.

You're right that this hobby is a good way to relieve stress.  Sometimes it seems to add stress, but it certainly takes your mind off the outside world.
