Hi Dave! Welcome to the Forums!. Glad to have you with us.

I started building in 1946 (6 years old) and never stopped. I build anything and everything. Favorites are WWI & WWII planes followed by Sailing Ships.

The members here are very knowledgeable and ready to help with questions/problems. Don't be afraid to ask for help. That's what we're here for.

1946 your just a bit younger than my mom (Whos still here on gods green earth, Thank God).  I was 7 in 67 and my first kit I remember was a P-40 Warhawk. And when I finish it It was cover in glue and smeared finger prints. oh and i didnt paint it. It wasn't till around 69 or 70 that I had sometime happen that give me the skills to build a desent looking model.

I visted a friends house on summer day and on their front room self was two beauifle kits. Sorry about my spelling & gramer I've had a few minor strokes. I ask my friend whos they were and It was his Brother that had just return from the Nam war. I then got a chance to talk with him and he told me to come back a few weekends and he would teach me. So after a few week I learn to use tooth picks for small amounts of glue. I learn masking, getting rid of seams and using spray paint & (Fine small brushs). Any that made all the diff. in the world. I am still very greatful to him to this very day. Away thanks and have a great day. Dave

Dave, you hang in there with us and your builds will get better. You have any questions/problems just ask. Lots of talent to pick from. I've learned a few things from them that helped me in my builds. As the old saying goes "Your never too old to learn".

I just wanted to let you know. I well not be posting pics till this coming fall. I am in a assited living place and will not be making models till I get my own place. I will still be enjoying this great site. When I get my own place I will be starting from scratch, as my storage unit was wiped out last year. over 200 plus unmade kits taken and all my tools. Still I am looking forward to getting back into the Hobby.

The only model I have left is My uncles ship from ww2. He was on the uss jarvis DD-393 in the battle of Guadalcanal, his ship was hit and had to leave the battle, it was sunk the next day with all hands.  A few years ago I built a 1/350 kit of it and its display at my moms with his purle heart and flag. He was my moms oldest brother born in 1917 .

Hi viper3063, It's understandable that you won't be able to post pictures until the fall, given your current circumstances. It's great to hear that you'll still be enjoying the community here despite not being able to work on models for a while.

Losing over 200 unmade kits and all your tools must have been incredibly difficult, but your positive outlook on getting back into the hobby once you have your own place is admirable. The story behind your uncle's ship from WWII adds a personal and poignant touch to your modeling journey. It's wonderful that you were able to honor his memory by building a model of his ship and displaying it alongside his Purple Heart and flag.
