Hello there from an old newbie
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, May 3, 2003 5:50 AM
Hi to all...I think that this site is great. I'm new to it...I returned to modelling about three to four years ago after a break of 30+ years...It amazes me the no. of changes that have occured. Now at age 61 I want to build one of each type plane that my sons' operational squadrons have ever flown (Going back to 1918 for one and 1944 for the other) plus the ones he has trained on etc. I also am into famous types, especially bombers from WW II and after. I do 1/72 scale because that way I can keep anything I build in relative size for comparison purposes.

The hobby has changed so much from the old box scale $0.69 Aurora models of the early 50's.

has anyone out there ever run into an Oneill 1/72 Keystone panther? Or do I have to someday try to scratchbuild the entire thing?

Once agian Hi...looking forwards to being a participant in the Forums

Welcome to FSM Bruce. It's great to have you along with us. Long gone is the days of the $0.69 kits but has the engineering ever improved too.
Happy Modelling and God Bless Robert

Hey Bruce, Seems we're kinda in the same boat, so to speak. I just recently returned to modeling myself after many years absence. I'll soon turn 60 and about to retire. Thought I'd build models to keep myself occupied. I mostly try to build WWII aircraft but I like the other years also. I dabble in some AFV and cars also.

I'm 64 and into 1/72nd also, for the same reasons you are: size comparisons and room! I was in 1/48th years ago and had collected all the a/c kits for the 20th FG from the P-26 to the F-111 (then). Never got around to building them due to personal reasons, but I can see where you're headed. Good luck! I build only USN/USMC of all eras just to keep the garage from overflowing with unbuilt models. My wife's unanswerable question: "Honey, why are you buying a new model when you haven't built the ones you have?"

Welcome back, Bruce!

As always, it's good to have a fellow A/C modeler out there, especially one who themes his kits. Most of us don't have that kind of self control. Hope to see you soon in the trenches!
