Hello from Wisconsin
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, October 12, 2004 4:06 PM
Hi everyone,

I am a modeler from Eau Claire, Wisconsin (West-Central part of the state) returning to the hobby after about a 15 year hiatus for school/part-time jobs and the beginning of my career. While my modeling interests cover just about anything related to the military (World War II through modern days), I primarily model 1/48 scale World War II-era aircraft, although at some point (after my skills improveWink [;)]) I would like to start some 1/350 scale warships as well. I have a pretty big stash left over from "back in the day," so I will be keeping busy for quite some time!

I have been "monitoring" the forum for awhile and have found it extremely helpful in preparing to re-enter the hobby, so I would like to thank everyone for that. It has also been great to see some of the work you all do and am duly impressed. I only hope that someday my models will look as great as yours!Shy [8)] I have been able to at least get started with some pretty good tools--now I just need the practice and the skills to make the most of them.Smile [:)]

I expect that you will see me from time to time, primarily with questions and/or requests for suggestions or advice until I advance a little more in experience (after which I hope to help others when I can).

Greetings to you all!

Welcome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and Howdy from TX!

Are you anywhere near Rhinelander? One day I plan to make a pilgramidge there and sample the nectar they call Rhinelander beer... (ok I am kidding about the nectar part... but in the Navy I think I knew half the town of Rhinelander cuz they were serving with me so I strill want to go there)

Ask any question you want! You might not get the right answer but at least its an answer.!! no... I wasnt sposed to say that... ummm.... yeah! we're here to help you! yeah thats it! (kidding)

don't worry about your perception of your skills... we're all modellers and we all do good models... just because you dont think yours is as good as so and so's doesnt mean that other person cant pick up something from yours!!! Thats what it is all about is sharing...

Looking forward to seeing your pics! BTW what type of WWII aircraft do you like most!!! right now I am in a Pacific stage... went through a ETO stage.... feel myself being drawn back by a FW190 I picked up recently...

Welcome!!!!

I am not too close to Rhinelander. Rhinelander is about three hours northeast from where I am (closer to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan); I was up there a couple of times back in high school, but haven't been in that direction for some time now. I can't say that I've heard of Rhinelander beer, but a lot of towns have their own "local" brews, so it would not surprise me (I know that Stevens Point has "Point" beerSmile [:)]).

I generally build American aircraft, from both the ETO and PTO, but I also have a number of kits from other nations (British, German, Japanese aircraft). Right now I am building a couple of modern jets as "practice" models to practice some new techniques that I have not used before (i.e. using washs, drybrushing, airbrushing--my skills as a kid were pretty basic),so it will probably be a couple of months before I feel comfortable enough to return my World War II kits. The modern kits are ones that I got as gifts from family members way back when that fell out of my primary interest area--that way when I mess up it really isn't a big deal!Big Smile [:D]
