Hi everyone.

I am 30 and I am fairly new to the plastic junkie genre' and I am looking for info of any type that would help me become a better builder. I don't even know how to use modeling putty. I have only put together & painted about 9 1/144 gundam wing kits. I would love to know if anyone has any ideas on where to find some clear, concise instructions, tips, on the basics of painting with and without an airbrush. I would also love to learn the techniques for simulating age, ware, rust burns or battle damage. I would also love to know of any publications that would walk someone through the basics of lighting a model, kit modifications and scratch building If anyone knows of any userfriendly. If anyone knows of any DVD's, videos, books or websites or individuals that could help I would be most greatful for the assistance. Star Wars is my first love and my ultimate aspiration is to be able to scratch build my own studio scale models one day and I really need some help on my journey to get me there. Please help me fellow members...you're my only hope.Tongue [:P]

Welcome!!!

and it's pretty much like they said... for airbrushing and weathering, there are some stickies (flagged topics) in the airbrushing and painting topic... for fillers and putty try the Techniques section... one good source mentioned in both topics is swannysmodels.com a lotta good stuff there!

I've picked up SO many things since coming here and am putting them to practice... the quality of my builds are increasing as I read each post too... I think you'll find all the info you could ask for here!

Welcome aboard!

gimpjedi

If you want to concentrate on Gundam Kits than I recommend Hobby japan and their publications relating to building Gundam Kits. Yep, they are in japanese but are easy enough to follow without being able to read/understand japanese.

Most of the other things you are interested in can be easily found by doing a search here on the forums or on google.

There is way too much material out there that we could recommend you as you are asking nearly for the full knowledge base about building models from the basics to the advanced techniques.

Work slowly, try a few new things on each model in a few years you will have mastered a lot and be able to build way better models than you can do now.
Getting good at modeling is maybe 5% reading about techniques the rest is trial and error and pracice, practice, practice and than some more practice.

tho9900 beat me too it... swann'ys site is awsome. go to the tips and tools section and browse through there. I cant tell you how much I improved because of that site and I know more than a few other modelers can make that same statement. Other than that browse the rest of the forums and If you cant find a specific awnser to what your trying to do just ask. Remember to post pics of what you build. Its not only great to show of what you build but it give other modelers way to add constructive critisism to help you improve. that saidSign - Welcome [#welcome]Sign - Welcome [#welcome]Sign - Welcome [#welcome]
