Brand New Gal

Hey y'all! Well this is the beginning of modeling for me and i've come to it in a round about way. I'm a graphic designer with a particular interest mid century (love that deco) design and all things 40s. I'm particular interested in industrial design from the period which invariably means the beautiful aircraft. I'm having fun with my first model, a p-38 lightening (1/48) but admit to being a little intimidated by all the beautiful work i see here. Anway, just saying hi! Thanks for welcoming the new gal on the block. Big Smile [:D]

Welcome aboard Meredith, don't be intimidated, just ask lots of questions and soon you'll be building like a pro.
And don't forget about the beautiful tanks of the 40's. LOL
Happy Modelling and God Bless Robert

Hi ya Merideth ...

Welcome to the FSM community modeling forum(s). Approve [^]
I think you will find that we are a very diverse and friendly group of scale modelers from all corners of the world.

It sounds to me like your interest as a graphic designer in things of the '40's will mesh well with scale modeling.

Your choice of the P-38 Lighnting is a good one ... in my humble opinion ... one of the greatest aircraft of the century. My uncle on my fathers side flew the P-38 Lightning from a base south of London England in '42 - '43, ... good luck with your project. Smile [:)]

Hello Merideth, welcome to the forum.
If you like the P-38 look at some of the cars of the late '40s that had fins inspired by the P-38. Their is a lot of styling cues that passed from aviation to auto( first Corvette emblem was an inverted Grumman emblem).

Hi Merideth,

I'm new here too (and to the hobby). Being primarily facinated with WW2 aircraft, I'm also a fan of the P-38 which is my next project (Monogram 1/48 scale). I hear its a real headache fit wise. For real modeling intimidation, check out "www.aircraftresourcecenter.com" and see some real intimidating work. The work there is amazing. The whole site is dedicated to modeling aircraft of all kinds especially old "warbirds" from the 1940's. They have a great P-38 section also. My house was built in 1944. The architecture is unrivaled (and sturdy). Does that count?

Welcome Merideth..
It looks like you are off to a good start with a graphics background. I have a fine arts background and it helps me get throught the "grey" areas in finishing models / figures. Enjoy yourself on here..and please post pictures, especially that P-38!
Regards, Dan
