Hey all,

I'm from Yokosuka naval base and started gathering parts for a 1/350 Ticonderoga when I stumbled upon this great site. I am new to fine scale, and began this interest when I decided there was an opportunity to build accurate models of modern warships while serving aboard one..

So far I found the only bump in the road in being over here is the search for the right paint. . Flammables cannot be shipped over here and I'm currently trying to work the commutation barrier for an exact paint match. But thats something I'll figure out eventually.

Other than my ticon I'm also interested in building a 1/350 Yamato or Bismark but cannot find either in resin kits. But searching through this site opened up many other possibilities I'm looking into. Its amazing how much info is here!

Howdy, Ken!
Welcome to FSM!
It seems the list of members from or living here in Japan is growing every day. I've spent most of my 11 years here in Osaka, but I did live in Fujisawa (a pleasant seaside city near Yokosuka) for about a year, and have fond memories of watching F-18s, A-6s, and S-3s shuttling back and forth between the Kitty Hawk and Atsugi Naval Air Station. Which ship are you stationed on? (Ah, I just checked your profile: USS Cowpens!)

Looking forward to seeing your Ticonderoga. Concerning a 1/350 Yamato or Bismark, have you considered the Tamiya injection kits?

Hey swabbie!!! (Former squid myself) welcome aboard! If you have a question someone here can answer it or has a cousin named Vinnie in Detroit that can!

Actually I saw a Tamiya paint conversion chart somewhere on here yesterday or today and if I find it I will point ya to it... what colors to mix to get the right shade of haze grey or whatever color you want! Don't think you'll have probs finding those paints over there!

Good to have another squid around! Actually check out the ships topic and ask about the paints and I am sure someone can help ya there!

By "injection kit" I meant an injection-molded styrene kit. You know, the usual plastic kits you can get from Tamiya, Hasegawa, Monogram, Revell, Airfix, etc.
You mentioned that you were interested in 1/350 resin kits of the Yamato or Bismark, but I think resin kits in general are very expensive, and even more so in 1/350, so I asked if you had considered the 1/350 injection kits of the Yamato and Bismark from Tamiya. You can pick them up for as cheap as 4,500 yen here in Japan.
