Hey Howdy-
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, January 31, 2005 11:46 AM
Hello everyone-

I figured it’s time that I properly introduced myself. My name is Scott Bell and I’m the last honest man in Washington DC.

All joking aside, I do in fact live in DC with my wife. I am a graduate student, working on a Masters in Social Work focusing on Mental Health.

I have two main hobbies in my life and both center around WWII aviation. The first is of course modeling. I focus primarily on 1/72 aircraft, I’ve dabbled a little in larger scales but try to refrain myself as I live in apartment and simply don’t have the space to put all my ummmm…lets call them creations. =)

My second hobby / love are online flight sims. More specifically, Aces High/War Birds 2.77. I played both for quite sometime under the name “gnubee” (newbie) and flew with the online squadron WoD or Wings of Death. I’ve taken some time off from this pursuit because as gaming technology has marched on, my budget has not. So I haven’t been able to upgrade my system…yet.

My love for WWII aviation stems from my grandfather, Carl Bell. He is a WWII veteran who served as a bombardier in the 13th USAAF/ 5th Heavy Bomber Group/ 394th Squadron from around 1944 on. He flew in B-24’s two of which I know to be Red Headed Woman and Two-Time. On a side note, he is alive and very well…and if there are any 13th AF vets out there, feel free to contact me as I’m sure he would love to hear from any of you.

Well that’s about all…
Thanks for all of the great tips that I’ve been able to gleam in my 2 years lurking on these boards! I look forward to getting to know all of you better.

-Scott Bell

Ps- I’m having trouble setting up my avatar…any tips?

Hello Scott, Welcome to the forum. Are you trying to insert a pic in your sig? If so do you have a photo host?

hey Scott! well after I moved out of DC you MUST be the the last honest man! haha... I was stationed at NNMC Bethesda for almost 8 yrs total (2 yrs here, 3 yrs there etc...) really miss it up there.. especially in fall when the leaves turn and in spring when the cherry blossoms are out...

You might be interested in this website, it is a B-24 research/reunion type board... they were very helpful trying to help me find info on my great uncle who flew tail gunner in the PAcific in WWII... (B-25 or B-24 still havent tracked it down yet)

here it is!

P.S. the avatar thing itself doesnt work here... just insert a pic from an onliune hosting site... like photobucket.com

Good luck and hope to see ya around! hmm maybe you and I can organize a medium/heavy bomber Group build! seeing as we both have a personal interest!

Scott,

Are you still out there?  I just stumbled across your 1-31-05 message mentioning the Red Headed Woman and Two-Time.  Several years ago, I wrote a story about the Red Headed Woman for the American Aviation Historical Society.

Long story short - through an internet search for something else (of course) I discovered and befriended Lt. Bill Blair.  He was the co-pilot of Read Headed Woman for around 30 missions, late in the war.  He provided quite a few photos of the aircraft.  Since writing the article I managed to track down relatives of the sergeant who painted the nose art for Red Headed Woman and Two-Time.  Lt. Blair and one other crewman are still with us.

If you would like to see the article and photos, follow this link to the AAHS site http://www.aahs-online.org/BackIssues/v49n3.htm#Article%205  You may respond to this or contact me, also.
