Greetings from sunny South Africa
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, June 1, 2003 4:32 PM
Hi everybody,
I'm new to the forum and would like to introduce myself. I've been building kits from a very young age and only had a short break when I got married. I enjoy building aircraft, armour, figures, diorama's, Sci-Fi and ships.

I have a special interest in South African military vehicles and aircraft. Since most vehicles are not available in kit form, I obviously have to scrathbuilt what I want. I'm also trying my hand at sculpting my own 120 mm figures, obviously related to South African military history.

I am closely involved in our own local chapter of the IPMS SA and enjoy all aspects of modeling.

Greetings and happy modeling

Hi Tappie: My name is Ron and I send you greetings from Westmont, Illinois in the States. It's sure good to hear fron a fellow modeler from a warmer climate and as Steve from Brookfield, Illinois can attest to we are waiting for our warmer weather to arrive this year because as of now we're in thehigh 50's to low60's for the Highs.
It would be very interesting to see some photos of some of your craftsmenship. God bless and guide your hand as you build...your friend near Chicago

Welcome aboard Tappie!!

Sounds like you've taken an obstacle (not having many kits of South African vehicles & aircraft) and turned it into a challenge. Scratchbuilding and sculpting your own models must be satisfying -- especially when there aren't many models of the subject around to begin with.

It sounds like you most likely have quite a collection -- very unique at that. Some day maybe you could tell us some more and maybe post pictures if you can.

Happy Modeling!!

howsit Tappie,

Welcome to the forum! It's a great place for infinite wisdom, as it has saved my bacon from many mistakes many times. Your country is a beautiful place. I have spent time in the Drakensburg, near the Amphitheatre and also the Kruger. I must say the the biltong is better than what we have here and nothing beats a braai with a lot of Black Label or Windhoek. My best pal and his brother own a wood company in Randfontein. How's SA doing in the Super 12?

Thanks again, I feel really at home on this forum.
I hope to post some pic's soon.
We did a lot better in the Super 12 this year and hope we can upset the aussiecart in the Tri-Nations, and the World Cup! Nothing beats rugby, Braaivleis, Sunny skies, Black Label & a good kit.
Greetings,

P.S I'm only 40 min away fron Randfontein
